Australia and host New Zealand, the gold and silver medalists from the last ISF Worlds in 2009 both notched first round wins on the opening day of the 2013 ISF Men’s World Championships.
Australia 6, USA 0
Australia cruised to a 6-0 win over Team USA, with Adam Folkard picking up the win, over Travis Price. Joel Southam of Australia had two hits and drove in three runs for the defending champs, who scored three in the second, and single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to put the game away. Adam Folkard tossed a two hitter, striking out twelve. Adam La Londe and Josh Johnson had the two hits for Team USA, coming in the first and second innings respectively.

New Zealand 5, Mexico 0
Heine Shannon and Nik Hayes shared the pitching duties, each striking out eight for a total of 16 on the night. Hayes tossed three no hit innings to close things out for the 2009 Silver medalists.
New Zealand scored one run in the first, three in the second and one more in the fourth enroute to an easy opening night victory.
Veteran Donny Hale drove in two runs for the Black Sox, while Nate Nukunuku, a late addition to the Black Sox roster had two hits out of the leadoff spots for the host team.
