Playoff Game 8 – Australia vs. Argentina
This game is set to go at 7:30pm New Zealand time.
After more than a week of playing one game a day, it will be the second game of the day for both of these clubs.
Australia cruised to a 4-0 win this morning, behind a no-hit performance by lefty Andrew Kirkpatrick. Australia made easy work in their pool, sweeping all seven games. Their toughest contest was a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Samoa. They appeared to have won their playoff contest against arch rival New Zealand won last night, taking the lead in extra innings, only to have the kiwis rally in the bottom of the inning to take the game and force the Aussies to fight their way back to the final.
Argentina finds itself in the Final Four of the World Championships for the first time in its history, knocking off North America’s top two clubs in consecutive days, the USA yesterday, and Canada today. The Argentines have relied primarily on their pitching, with Juan Potolicchio and Lucas Mata at the top of their game. But they have shown flashes of power, including an 8 run inning to end the contest against the USA, and what proved to be a game winning home run against Canada.
