It wasn’t until the beginning of last year’s softball season that Mitchell’s Tyler Pauli wondered if he had the ability to play ball at an elite level.
“I was going to a game with my dad and I just asked him if he thought I could make Team Canada one day,” Pauli recalled last week. “I grew a lot at the beginning of last year and got bigger and stronger and started the season hitting and fielding well. He told me I had a chance as long as I kept working hard and playing the way I was. That’s really the only time it ever came up.”
That hard work has paid off, as Pauli, who turns 19 later this month, was one of 17 athletes named to Softball Canada’s Junior Men’s national team May 28.
“It sure wasn’t planned or expected,” he said.
