JARVIS – The Jarvis J’s gave a good accounting of themselves at an intermediate men’s fastball tournament in Jarvis over the weekend.
The J’s compete in the Erie Men’s Fastball League and didn’t even expect to participate in the three-day North American Fastball Challenge. However, they were asked to fill in at the last minute when Argentina’s national junior squad was unable to follow through on its commitment to attend.
The tournament was a struggle for the J’s, who needed come-from-behind wins over Cobourg and Ohsweken to advance to Sunday’s winner-take-all final against the Toronto Gators.
J’s coach Jeff McCarthy was pleased with the result given the skill level of the competing teams. The J’s are one of the better teams in the Erie league but they didn’t expect to make it as far as they did.
“The Gators were the world champions in 1993 and 1995,” McCarthy said. “They’re a little older than us. Half their team is young, the other half is older and more experienced.” Click here to read the complete story at the Simcoe Reformer
