The 2014 edition of the ISC World Fastball Tournament will take a look back before starting.
Hosted in Kitchener for the first time since 2007, planners felt it necessary to honour those who built the game and the parks in Kitchener-Waterloo — contributions that make tournaments like these possible.
So on Aug. 8, Kitchener Fastball Promotions will unveil an “Angels in the Outfield” display at Peter Hallman Ballyard to commemorate of nine people who are synonymous with ball in this area.
“If you look at the names that are on that, they’re pretty big names for softball in the community and seeing those names and the impact they’ve had . . . it was a no-brainer for us,” said Matt Allen, media co-ordinator for the tournament. “It was brought to our attention that there’s nothing we can do to commemorate those people once they’ve passed on.”
That ceremony is just the start of a full night to kick off the 2014 International Softball Congress World Fastball tournament, which officially starts on Saturday. It runs until Aug. 16. Click here to read the entire article at the Kitchener Post.
