KITCHENER — They’re back.
After a seven-year hiatus, the granddaddy of men’s club team fastball events, the International Softball Congress world tournament, returns to Peter Hallman Ball Yard and Budd Park.
Forty-eight of the finest men’s fastpitch teams from across the continent will vie for the world club team championship starting this weekend.
Competing teams include the No.-1 ranked and defending world champion Hill United Chiefs of Six Nations, the No. 2 New York Gremlins, and the Kitchener Hallman Twins, ranked third in the world.
Local entries Kitchener Diamond Jaxx, Kitchener Outlaws, Elmira Expos, Kitchener Tri City Jays and Kitchener Cubs will also participate.
The event includes a bracket for junior men and another for masters-aged players. The tourney runs until Aug. 16.
The Kitchener Twins’ opener is Sunday at the Hallman Ball Yard at 6:30 p.m. The Twins will take on the winner of Elkland (Pa.) Thunderbellies and the Ponsonby Sting. Click here to read the complete story at The Record.
