Cal State Builders outfielder Justin Deme hit a pair of two-run homers in back-to-back innings to lead the California squad to victory in its opener game at the ISC World Tournament at Kitchener Ontario Canada Saturday. Ryan Volk and Eddie Martin also had two hits for the Builders. The Builders scored two runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings, and appeared to be in command with a 6-1 lead headed into the 5th, when Swearburg’s offense came to life.
Builder pitcher Shawn Koster went the distance, holding off a furious Sweaburg offense that rallied for one run in the 5th on solo homer by D.J. Latford and 3 more in the 6th, on a 3 run homer by Sweaburg’s Darryl Wharrum. In the 7th, Wharrum followed a two out error by the Builders with a single, but a ground ball to third ended the rally and game, with Koster escaping with the win. Koster scatted 10 hits, struck out 7 and walked none. Click here for the box score and play-by-play.
