Randy’s A’s of Invemere British Columbia topped the Snappers of Niagara Falls Ontario, 6-4, in 10 innings, in their opening game of the 2014 ISC World Tournament at Kitchner Ontario, in a game that took just under 3 hours. Randy’s A’s entered the tournament as the # 13 ranked team in the world.
In a see-saw battle, Randy’s A’s were down 4-3 in the 6th, scoring a run to tie it at 4. The game remained tied headed into the top of the 10th inning when Terrell Walker and Evan Potskin hit back-to-back homers to take a 6-4 lead. The Snappers were retired in order in the bottom of the 10th to preserve the victory for the British Columbia club. Potskin had 3 hits and scored two runs while Walker had two hits, a triple and the homer and scored twice. For the Snappers, shortstop Adam Alexander was a one-man offense, with three hits, driving in three and scoring three.
Korrey Gareau came on in relief of Brian Newton, tossing 1 hit shutout ball, while striking out 7, including 2 in the bottom of the 10th inning to seal the win. Niagara’s Andrew Phibbs suffered the loss, in relief of Kyle Linton. Linton went the first 4 and a third, surrendering 3 runs, striking out 8, while Phibbs surrendered the other three runs in 5 and 2/3rds innings pitched.

Randy’s A’s will face the # 4 ranked Toronto Gators next, at 2:00 pm EDT (11am on the west coast) on Monday, August 11. The Gators made easy work of Napanee Merchants Express of Napanee Ontario, 12-0 in their Sunday night opener.
