Each year at this time we remember our friend Dwight “Dewey” Thompson, who passed away on the field at a tournament in Palm Springs California in 2004, and support a worthy cause, The American Heart Association Heart Walk. We encourage readers to send a small donation in memory of Dewey.
If you weren’t lucky enough to know Dewey, we invite you to read the wonderful eulogy given by Bruce Wilbur, his teammate and friend back in 2004. (scroll to the shaded box on that page) This passage made me smile, “He ran like the Bambino with small steps but was shocking fast for a big man.” I can still see him jogging the bases with those little steps, after crushing one off me. He would humbly tell me that he just got lucky and ran into one but seems like he did it every game…..

I’m walking to raise funds and support the American Heart Association’s mission: To build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Since 1949, the association has contributed more than $3.2 billion for heart and stroke research that has led to recent breakthroughs such as clot-busting drugs and drug-eluting stents.
I hope I can count on you to support my fundraising efforts and the great work of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association! Life. Life is why we need to work together to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Thank you in advance for your support!
