Logan’s Layton Reid helped the Australian Junior Steelers softball team to win a gold medal at the this month’s world championships in Canada.
The teenager from Boronia Heights, who has been nominated as a Local Sports Star, performed brilliantly under pressure. according to his coach Laing Harrow.
“He wasn’t at his best early on,” Harrow said of the Logan City Softball Association junior. “There were a few walks and wild pitches. But he got to the third inning with the lead, and he settled down and did an outstanding job.”
Harrow said Reid’s pitching performance in the final against Japan was sensational.
Reid said he was proud of the achievement and thanked two men, Ross tickle and Dave Metikingi, for putting him in a position to make the side by helping him recover from a knee reconstruction 12 months ago.
