From USA Softball:
USA 2, Argentina 0
Behind the arm of Cody Gibbons and some heads-up base running from the U.S. offense, Team USA picked up its third-straight win at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 Men’s World Cup with a narrow 2-0 victory over world-ranked No. 1 Argentina to remain undefeated.
usa.game_.3.Argentina_vs_USU18MensNationalTeam_Nov_14_2023Starting off with a lead-off walk to Logan Boom and a double from Braden DuCharme, the duo made their way around the bases for a passed ball and a wild pitch to put the U.S. ahead in the bottom of the first, 2-0. A true defensive showdown, neither side was able to break the silence through the rest of the matchup, while Gibbons proved dominant in the circle – fanning 11 batters while allowing only three hits through seven innings. A quiet day for the U.S. bats, Braden DuCharme was the only U.S. batter to record a hit in the matchup – posting a 2-for-3 multi-hit performance at the plate for the Eagles. Today’s matchup proved to be a key win for Team USA as it edged the world-ranked No. 1 team for the second time this year – previously defeating Argentina at the 2023 Pan American Championship with a 2-1 victory in September.
