From the Long Beach Black Sox website:
The Long Beach Black Sox ended their 7 year stint as one of the most successful teams in California winning 32 tournaments. They played their last game on a cold Saturday night at El Dorado Park losing to Gerald Pyle and J&B 9-5. Corey Avery got the save and also was 2-3 with a long 3 run home run and a RBI single in the win. Pyle went 4 innings for the win for J&B. Randy Clay suffered the loss for Long Beach. Martin Borgen hit a 2 run home run for Long Beach to highlight their scoring. Doug Shaw was 2-3 with a run and he also reached on an error.
The Sox will now take at least a year off as Fred Hanker takes a break from running the team. The website will continue to be updated with player news and updates. Thanks to all the players who came out this weekend and shared some vivid memories of years past it was a blast.
