USA Jr. Men Get Big Supporting Hand from Sonnetag Family
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today the schedule for the next two years for the USA Softball Junior Men’s National Team which will be highlighted by the 2012 ISF Junior Men’s World Championship, Nov. 1-10, in Parana, Argentina.
The Junior Men’s Team will go through two training camps in 2011 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., led by Head Coach Tim Lyon and Assistant Coaches Gary Mullican and Scott Standerfer. The training camps will be held June 20-25 and July 24-30.
“The coaching staff is excited to get the players on the field and begin the process of training and picking a team for the 2012 World Championships,” said Lyon. “Over the past two years we have been putting together a players pool to create depth in the program and we are ready to put this team to work.”
Highlighting the July camp will be six exhibition games against Argentina at the Training Center with more information to come. The USA Junior Men’s National Team will also hold a camp and clinic at the ASA Boys Fast Pitch Nationals, Aug. 4-7 in North Mankato, Minn.
The ASA is also pleased to announce that Tim Sonnentag of Marathon, Wis., has contributed significant financial support for the USA Junior Men’s team for training camps and the development of players. Along with his commitment to develop the Junior Men’s Team, he and his family have also established the Sonnentag Family scholarship. The scholarship was established in order to promote educational opportunities for members of the USA Softball Junior Men’s National
Team Players Pool and to encourage good citizenship and volunteerism.
“I am glad to I can help support the USA Junior Men’s National Team. I have worked with Tim and Scott before and know their dedication to getting the boys team back where it belongs,” said Sonnentag. “This is a great game and I know this will help develop young players and pitchers.”
