North Shore softballers are pitching for a new stadium in time for the world champs, they tell Joanna Davies.
The pine-green clubrooms at Rosedale Park are Auckland’s home of softball. This is where parents from much of the region bring their children at weekends, and where they stand around the diamond if they’re not early enough to get seats on the few old wooden bleachers.
In the rain, it’s worse.
Apart from the clubrooms and a few trees there’s little shelter around the 18 diamonds.
This could cause a predicament when the North Harbour Softball Association hosts the 2013 men’s world championships, where the Black Sox will play on home turf at Rosedale. It will be a first for Auckland.
The region has never hosted the men’s world champs, even though our national team has held the title three times in a row and came second last time. For an event of this scale to go ahead, the association wants to build a stadium. Click here for the complete news story at The Aucklander
