The National Umpiring Committee is proud to announce that Softball Australia’s National Umpiring Program has produced a fresh batch of ISF accredited umpires. During the ISF Umpire Clinic for the Oceania region held in Redlands Queensland and on-diamond at the John Reid Shield (Open Men’s)and Gilley’s Shield (Open Women’s) National Championships in February, the following Australian umpires achieved their ISF umpire certification:
Jason Carter (Vic)
Ian Frame (Qld)
Amanda Houison (NSW)
Ron Houison (NSW)
Yvonne Kahler (Qld)
Stacey Loveridge (Vic)
Helen Strauss (Qld)
Phil Waller (Vic)
Howard Watt (NSW)The umpires were given a 100-question rules examination, white board Case and Mechanics Play situations were evaluated where each umpire had to describe the rules and/or proper coverage for the three- or four- umpire system. They were evaluated in on-field drills and calling pitches from the pitching machine. Their final evaluation was working games on base work and behind the plate.
All these umpires can now apply to attend World Championships and other ISF endorsed competitions.
