Don’t be surprised if Santa Rosa Fastpitch moves up a notch or two among California’s softball elite.
Combining strong pitching by Jeff Want and a home run barrage led by Brian Macler, Nick Green, Casey Hillman and Carlos Gomez, Santa Rosa powered its way to six straight wins to capture the Lodi Tournament held April 14-15.
Want, who was not available to pitch during Saturday’s opening round, won all three games Sunday, defeating the Black Sox 8-4, Italian Athletic Club 11-2, and previously undefeated Roseville 8-2.
On Saturday, Jeff Hansel won two games, 8-7 over The Bashers and 11-6 over the Cal State Builders, and Gary Dower pitched one shutout inning in relief to get the win in a 16-14 marathon over IAC.
Santa Rosa came from behind in all three games Saturday and in Sunday’s first game against the Black Sox, when they played inton the fourth inning with only eight players and the Black Sox led 4-1 going into the bottom of the fourth. Brian Macler arrived at the game and got into the lineup just in time to deliver a two-run single that tied the game at 4-4 and he then hit a three-run home run the next inning that won the game. He had five rbi in two swings of the bat.Saturday’s Results
