Congratulations to Delsandros for winning the Pennant in the Summit NJ Mens
Windmill Fastpitch Softball League.
The Summit NJ Mens Fastpitch Softball League ended the regular season
with the top 5 teams all within one or two games of each other, a sure sign
of a very competitive softball league. The league on the verge of
extinction with only 4 teams at the end of the 2003 season has been rescued
largly through the efforts of the League's President Billy Oplinger who
over the last 12 months has worked tirelessly to breath new life into the
Summit League and Fastpitch in NJ,which is now alive and well. Billy not
only expanded the league to 6 teams starting a 5th team and bringing in the
long time Metro Champs Delsandros (formerly Vanguard) from the old Kearny
League where they had won many Metro Championships and the 1999 Nationals
to make a 6 team league. Billy planned and ran 3 tournaments in May, July
and upcoming August 14th/15th where the NJ teams got to compete against
Nationally ranked Class B & C teams from PA and Maryland.
The upcoming League Playoffs will surely be as competitive as Delsandros
takes on the 2000 Playoff Champs Land Solutions, while Billy Oplinger's 2
time Playoff Champs 2002 & 2003 Sports Club will battle it out with rival
Malcolm A's the 2001 Playoff Champs. The best 2 of 3 semis and finals rounds
may prove to be classics.
Having managed fastpitch teams for the last 34 season in 3 different
league's, this 2004 Summit NJ season is turning out to be the best ever.
The league is looking to expand to 8 teams in 2005 starting with the
Bloomfield League's Napoli's joining as the 7th team for 2005, they will
play in both leagues. Any NJ team wishing to join the league in 2005 should
contact Billy Oplinger at OPPY31 @aol.com
