August 20, 2004 --  Malcolm A's defeated Land Solutions in 2 games to win 
the 2004 Playoff Championship. The A's won the first game 11 to 0 behind 
the 2 hit,11 K pitching performance of Leon Valentine. Ciro D'Urso and 
Chris Vitolo both homered in the A's win. Ciro,John Bowerbank, Mike Romeo, 
Bernie McCallum, Chris Setzer and Curt Pakutka all chipped in 2 hits 
apiece. Mario Solodkin took the loss for Land.
The final game started out with a 5 to 0 A's lead but Land never giving up 
came storming back to tie the game 5 all in the 7th inning. Both teams were 
scoreless in the 8th through 11th innings. Land loaded the bases in the 8th 
and 11th innings but Leon Valentine pitched out of both jams. In the top of 
the 12th Joe Mauro sent his second homer of the game over the right field 
wall to put the A's up 7 to 5, while Kurt Ruppel drove in a 8th run with a 
sac fly. Leon Valentine who threw a 9 hitter with 12 K's set Land down in 
the bottom of the 12th to win the game and move his record to 14-2 on the 
season. Paul Southwick also threw a fine game in the loss.
This was the A's 9th Playoff Championship having won 7 in the Old Florham 
Park League and now thier second 2001 and 2004 in the Summit League. The 
A's will now have 2 doubeheaders next week against fellow Summit teams 
Sports Club and Delsandros who are both joining the A's at the Nationals. 
A's and Sports Club to the Class C in Nebraska and Delsandro in the Class B 
in Texas.
