Many of you crossed paths with long-time Fastpitch groundskeeper and
umpire, Mutt Nagle. Mutt was rarely without a big "chaw" of tobacco and,
as my father said, he's not really cussing, it's just his form of
slang!!!! Many a ball game was saved from the weather by Mutt. His pride
and joy was St. Joseph's Walnut Park---easily the best fastpitch venue in
Northwest Missouri and arguably the best in the entire state before it got
in the way of a hog processor. Here's his obit.

Martin L. Nagle
1928-2004
Martin L. "Mutt" Nagle, 75, St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, August 26, 2004
at a local hospital.
Born November 21, 1928 in St. Joseph, he was a lifelong resident.
On May 23, 1998 in St. Joseph, he married Donita Hamm, who survives of the
home.
Mr. Nagle worked at Wire Rope for 46 years as a reel assembler until
retiring in 1992. After retiring he worked for the Parks and Recreation
Department as a groundskeeper for softball and baseball fields. Earlier in
his life he worked as the groundskeeper for Goetz Field and Walnut Park.
He was a member of the YMCA, he served as an ASA Umpire, and was inducted
into the ASA Missouri Hall of Fame in 1990 as an umpire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Edward and Edna (Porter)
Nagle; and nine brothers and sisters.
Additional Survivors: a son, Tom Nagle, St. Joseph, Mo.; two daughters,
Kathy Nelson, St. Joseph, Missouri, Shirley Luedtke, St. Joseph, Mo.; two
step-sons, Jeff Barber, St. Joseph, Mo., Craig Barber, St. Joseph, Mo.; a
nephew, Larry Nagle; his first wife, Marjorie Roberts; nine grandchildren,
Brad Nagle, Michael Sollars, Jason Sollars, John Nelson, Grant Nagle, Bryan
Nagle, Ty Nagle, Morgan Nagle and Mason Nagle; five great grandchildren,
Jacob Sollars, Kelsey Sollars, Paige Sollars, Andrew Nelson and Jordyn
Nelson; and his bird, Ricki.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service. Interment
Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday,
Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service. The family suggests memorial gifts to
the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
