A three-run double by Andrew Hill was the decisive blow as the Mississauga
Chiefs shut out the Mississauga Mudcats 5-0 to take a 2-1 lead in their
best-of-five Mississauga Fastball League final.
Hill slashed the bases-loaded double to the gap in right centerfield to
score Dwayne Schrader, Jamie Raymond, pinch running for Tom Fortune, and Joe
Richer to cap a four-run uprising by the Chiefs in the fourth inning.
Blair Setford got things rolling for the Chiefs by notching a one-out single
and advancing to third on a double by Schrader. An infield single by Fortune
loaded the bases. The Mudcats looked to be out of the inning with two
strikeouts from starting pitcher Chad Reed, however, a passed-ball
third-strike allowed Setford to score and Richer to reach first.
A solo home run by Drew Hathway in the fifth inning sealed the win. Hathway
was the winning pitcher, allowing only four hits. Reed took the loss, giving
up five runs in four innings of work. Chris McColl relieved after two
batters in the fifth inning and held the Chiefs at bay.
Game four is scheduled for Monday September 20 at 8:45 pm at Meadowvale
Sports Park.
