And the race is on....

Battle for positions heat up as league ch'ship approaches

ALBERTON - The real fast pitch season is just beginning and that's what
teams in the
Source for Sports Men's Fast Pitch League are saying as the final regular
season games approach early next week, solidifying positions for the
year-end league championship.
There are several different scenarios that could play out following games
Sunday, Monday and Wednesday which could shuffle the positions and set the
stage for an interesting year end tournament next weekend at VIV Field in
Summerside.
The Kinkora O'Sheas Pub and Eatery Hitmen start the race to the
championship off with a double header Sunday afternoon in St. Louis against
the Storm at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
With one win, the Hitmen will clinch first place as they currently sit at
22-0. The Storm meanwhile have a shot to catch the Alberton Arms Pub
Athletics should they win twice and Alberton win just one of their five
remaining games, they would vault into second.
The other shuffling is between the Welling Arsenault Sawmill Jacks (7-16)
and Summerside Moosehead Greco Twins (7-17) for fourth and fifth place.
The Jacks have a crucial four point game coming up Monday against the A's
where their position could be cemented if they lose - they will be fifth -
but if they win it puts pressure on Summerside. The game Monday goes at
6:15 p.m. at Evangeline school field.
Meanwhile the Hitmen will take on the Twins at VIV Field in Summerside
Monday night in a double header looking to show why they are the top team
in the league. The Twins will be looking to add to their season totals and
hoping for a fourth place finish, so they need the two wins. Game times are
7 and 9 p.m.
Wednesday night will see a potential league championship preview as
Alberton visits the Hitmen at VIV Field in Summerside for a twin bill at 7
and 9 p.m. Alberton will be looking to go into the championship with
momentum, and that could be none better then breaking the goose egg in the
loss column the Hitmen currently have. Kinkora looks to finish the season
with a perfect record.
Fans are encouraged to come out as the race heats up for final positioning
in the league, as each team looks to get better for the championship, which
starts Friday, Sept 25 running until Sunday night Sept. 27. The
championship game is set for 7 p.m. Sunday night, Sept. 27.
A player of the week for this past week (SEPT 13-18) and one for SEPT 19-23
will also be announced, based on results from Sunday, Monday and
Wednesday's games.
