Alvinston, On

      The Glencoe Astros defeated the Alvinston Indians 9-2 last night to 
win the St.Thomas and District Men's Fastball League Championship.  Glencoe 
won the series by a 3 games to 1 margin.  Once again last night it was 
Alvinston pitcher Doug Charlton vs Glencoe's Shaun Winship.  Glencoe broke 
the scoreless game exploding for 7 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, 
sending 11 batters to the plate.  Rich Galbraith had a 2RBI single and 
Winship cleared the bases with a double.  Alvinston did manage to score 2 
runs in the bottom of the 5th after loading the bases with none out, but 
Winship manages to pitch out of the jam and preserve the 5 inning 
mercy.  It was a good finish for Glencoe after struggling in all the major 
tournaments it went to, but winning the league title in its first year was 
a good stepping stone for next year for this young team.  After finishing 
in 3rd place behind the Union Storm, and Highgate Rock, the Astros swept 
it's first round series against the Alymer Cardinals.  Next up was Highgate 
who was the one team that had pretty much had its way with Glencoe all year 
in league play.  Glencoe won that series 3 games to 1 to advance to the 
finals against the defending champions Alvinston.  Glencoe would like to 
thank all the sponsors and fans for making this year a success..Team
