Softball Ontario up to the Active 2010 Challenge
On Friday October 22, Softball Ontario was in attendance at the Skydome in
Toronto with an interactive booth for kids at Sporting Life's ACTIVE 2010
Challenge.
In association with the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, the Provincial
Sports Organizations of Ontario and other provincial sports organizations,
the goal of this event was to get kids interested and enthused about being
fit and taking part in healthy activities.
If participation was any indication, the event was a major success. Over
3000 students from across Ontario were on hand to test their fitness levels
and learn about the wide variety of organized sports available to
them. Softball Ontario showed their support with an interactive booth that
allowed kids to try out "Blastball", one of the popular new programs being
offered in house leagues province-wide. The kids also had a chance to test
their arm speed as they threw balls into a net and were clocked by a radar
gun. The teachers in attendance were extremely impressed with the fun and
enthusiasm the kids showed for Softball Ontario's new programs.
This proved to be a tremendous event for Softball Ontario, showcasing our
sport to thousands of children that otherwise might not get a chance to
experience it. Everyone who attended had a great time and it was fantastic
to see so many kids having fun and being active. Although it did seem odd
that on a day when thousands of kids were running through hours of fitness
tests, it was the volunteers who went home exhausted!
Many thanks go out to all of the sponsors who helped put the event together
and all the volunteers who made it happen. A special thank you goes out to
Sporting Life for allowing us to attend the event and we look forward to
participating again next year.
On deck for Softball Ontario will be hosting a Learn to Play information
session at the OASA Annual General Meeting in Peterborough, on November
20th at 9 a.m.
