JRW & Associates drops Opener to Boise Clippers at NAFA World Series
Casper Park, Mankato, Minnesota..On Friday in the NAFA Class AA World
Series, JRW lost their opener 7-3 to the Boise Idaho Clippers.
Ann Morrison Park in Boise was booked as was Gateway Park in Yakima so the
Clippers and JRW decided to play their travel league game in Mankato.
In T1, JRW loaded the bases on an error, walk and a single. One run scored
on a walk. Then JRW LF Bob Harris ground into a 5U, 5-3 DP. Another
groundout ended the inning.
In the T2, JRW RF Troy Grow singled, then 2B Don Cawthron homered to give
JRW a 3-1 lead.
The Clippers added a run in B2 on a walk, error and a sac fly by LF Kerry
Green. The Clippers tied the score on three successive singles in the B6
with Boise CF Daric Smith driving in the run.
JRW threatened in the T4 with successive singles by CF Tim Fischer and RF
Troy Grow. The Clippers sent ace John Clark to the mound who struck out the
next two batters to end the inning scoreless for JRW.
The Clippers broke open the game with a double by LF Kerry Green, an RBI
double by RF Dave Ediss, an RBI single by 1B Mike Lehman and an RBI single
by 3B Brian Stanton. (Mike Lehman was the MVP in the 2003 DeMarini Classic
in Portland Oregon).
JRW Travis Kraft pitched the last two innings, striking out two but allowed
one run for the 7-3 Clipper victory.
For JRW, 2B Don Cawthron was 1-4, 1 HR, 2 Runs, 2 RBI; 1B Dean Waltier was
1-2, 1 RBI; and RF Troy Grow was 2-3, 1 Run.
Not an excuse, but from their ISC II roster, JRW is missing SS Paul Reyes,
pitcher Matt Barnes, LF Paul Carlton and 2B Kasey Knight, the latter two who
were pickups from the NW Merchants team who won 1-0 Friday in their opening
game at the NAFA World Series. JRW will also be without 1B Dean Waltier who
severely pulled his hamstring trying to advance from first to third on a
single by JRW's LF Bob Harris. To add misery to misfortune, Dean was trying
to return to Seattle on a Northwest Airlines flight, an airline whose union
was set to go strike Friday night at 1:00 AM.
JRW will play at 11:30 AM Sat morning in the 3GG NAFA loser's bracket.
