Day 6 Highlights
Round Robin
Newfoundland vs Prince Edward Island NL clinches 1st place
Newfoundland defeated Prince Edward Island this
morning in the final round robin game to secure
1st place in round robin play. Newfoundland will
play British Columbia later today in the 1 vs 2 game.
Playoff Round
Newfoundland vs British Columbia BC will play for Gold
British Columbia came out hard and fast to defeat
Newfoundland by la lopsided 12-0 margin. British
Columbia moves onto the Gold Medal game tomorrow
morning at 10:00. BC got going in the top of the
1st with back to back RBI doubles that made the
score 2-0 early on. Bryan Abrey (Richmond, BC)
hit the first one followed by Kevin Smillie
(Squamish, BC). With two men on Lee Lucas hit a
3 run home run that gave BC a 5-0 lead after half
an inning. BC continued to roll in the 2nd
inning; Bryan Abrey hit a 2 run home run and BC
would add 4 more runs in the 2nd to make it a 9-0
lead. The final score was BC 12 NL 3 after only
5 innings of play due to the 7 run mercy
rule. Newfoundland will play the winner of
Ontario vs Nova Scotia for a chance to play in
the Gold medal game Saturday morning.
Ontario vs Nova Scotia 7th inning thriller
Ontario defeated Nova Scotia 6-5 and will play
Newfoundland for a chance to advance to the Gold
medal game against British Columbia on Saturday
morning. Ontario jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead
in the first 2 innings. Already 1-0 after 1
inning of play, Colin Thome (Scarborough, ON) hit
a 2 RBI single to make it 3-0. Ontario carried a
3-1 lead into the 4th inning until Jeremy Connor
(Enfield, NS) and Jonathan Gunn (Denver Guys
Cove, NS) hit back to back RBI singles to tie the
game. Entering the bottom of the 6th inning the
game was tied 4-4. Chris Lewis (Camden East, ON)
scored on a pass ball and Nathan Moffat (Selby,
ON) hit an RBI single to regain Ontario's 2 run
lead. Nova Scotia threatened in the top of the
7th and scored 1 run off a Donnelly Archibald
(Aspen, NS) RBI double to make it a 1 run game at
6-5. That is as close as Nova Scotia would get
as Ontario moves on in the playoff round and Nova
Scotia finishes the Canada Games with a 4th place finish.
Newfoundland vs Ontario
Ontario beat Newfoundland in a back and forth
game to secure a berth against British Columbia
on Saturday morning at 10:00AM in the Gold Medal
game. Andy Skelton (Scarborough, ON) got Ontario
off to a hot start in the bottom of the 1st
inning when he crushed a home run to give Ontario
a 2-0 lead. Lee tied the game for Newfoundland
in the top of the 2nd when he hit a 2 RBI double
and made the score 2-2. Colin Thome gave Ontario
a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 4th by hitting a
2 RBI single. Newfoundland would score 1 more
run but would not get any closer as Ontario would
win 4-3. Newfoundland has secured the bronze medal in the Canada Games.
