ALBERTON - For all the offensive numbers the Ancaster Cyclones (Ont.
No One) and Kingston Kobras (Ont. No Two) put up during the round
robin of the 2005 Tignish Credit Union Bantam Girls Eastern Canadian
Championship here, the bats were silent in the all Ontario0final
Sunday afternoon.

It took a bottom of the seventh RBI triple of the bat of Kaitlyn
Desousa and an 11-strikeout , two-hitter performance from MVP Chelsey
Schoenfeldt to earn the thrilling 1-0 win held at Memorial Park.

Whitney Desarmia (2-3) reached base to leadoff the seventh with just
the Kobras second hit of Cyclones Sarah Ramage, the top pitcher for
the playoffs. Desousa hit a 1-1 offering over shortstop Lauren
Mazzuca's head and into left field and Desarmia wasn't stopping as
she plated the game's only run, ending the game.

The game was pretty even with neither pitcher or devfense allowing
anything to get by them. Kingston looked more relaxed then they did
in their semifinal with L'Express du Laval, where they had a scare
but rallied for the win to advance.

Ancaster faced a scary moment early in the game when Mazzuca went to
track down a foul ball, and caught the ball then hit the third base
side oft he fence and stayed on the ground as her teammates and
coaches rushed to see if she was ok to end the second inning. She
would get up and stay in the game after getting her wind back.

"That was a truly unbelievable game," one Kingston coach said after the game.

The Cyclones manage just two hits of a solid Schoenfeldt, with Ramage
and Veronica Berrie getting the only hits.

Greco'Player of the Game' Schoenfeldt went the distance, walking two
and fanning 11 to earn the huge win. Ramage, named the Capt. Sub
'Player of the Game', allowed three hits, two walks while striking
out four batters.

The Cyclones got to the championship with an 8-2 win over Holly Denny
and the Judique Celidh Royals (N.S. No. One) behind Lauren Mazzuca's
big bat and three RBI game while Kingston mercied L'Express du Laval
11-4 after trailing 3-1 at one point and rallying on the heels of
Emily Taylor's top game going 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBI
as Amelia Keech picked up the win.

In Saturday's finale to the round robin, Chelsa Lidstone and Ashtin
Arsenault teamed to lead the West Prince Cavendish Produce Athletics
to an 11-2 defeat of Cardigan; Whitney Desarmia hit a grand slam to
blow it open as the Kobras downed Chaleur of New Brunswick (N.B. 1)
8-0; Laval ended the round robin with a 6-2 win over Chaleur; the
Cornwall Cougars mercied Au P'tit Mousse Peninsule Acadienne 9-2;
Ancaster downed Sud Ouest in their second game of the day 12-8 before
the Dragons edged the Summerside Stingers 7-6 to eliminate the
Stingers thanks to a Raven Meloche game winning RBI single.

In the crossovers, L'Express du Laval 15, Sud Ouest Dragons 7
(playing their third straight game back to back to back) and Judique
Celidh Royals 3, Cornwall Cougars 0;

L'EXPRESS CLAIMS BRONZE OVER JUDIQUE, N.S.

Alex Voyer hit three doubles, driving homefour RBI as the L'Express
du Laval mercied the Royals 10-3 in five innings to claim the bronze
medal. Judique finishes fourth overall at the tournament.

Julie Delorme (3-3, two runs scored), Joelle Doirion (2-3, two
doubles, two RBI) and Marylyne Cloutier (2-3, run scored, double) led
the attack.

For the Royals, who had high hopes but were playing immediately after
their semifinal game, Maddy Syliboy, player of the game, went 3-for-3
with a run scored, triple, RBI; Katie MacDonald (2-2, double, RBI)
and Christina Avery (1-3, stolen base).

Winning pitcher Melanie Provencale went five innings allowing three
runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six.

Losing pitcher Christina Avery went four innings, scattering nine
runs on 10 hits, walking two. Holly Denny pitched an inning allowing
one run two hits, striking out one.

Laval came to the Easterns as Quebec's No. Two entry, and seemed to
come together as a group as Saturday came around and gelled at the
right moment to pick up the third place finish.
