The Bluewater Fastball League has denied a request by the Port Elgin Blue 
Devils to delay and shift this weekend's year end championship tournament.

The League Championship Tournament is set for Chepstow, but as a result of 
their request being denied, the regular season champion Blue Devils will 
not compete.

Port Elgin made the request when it became apparent they could not field a 
team for the Championship.

Two Blue Devils are playing hockey in Europe, two others have committed to 
playing in the Eastern Canadian Championships, another Blue Devil is taking 
his fire fighting course, and pitcher Scott Christie is injured and out for 
the season.

The six absentees mean that Port Elgin would have been able to field just 8 
players for the event.

The League denied Port Elgin's request primarily because the South Perth 
League tournament is scheduled for the following weekend and many Bluewater 
players also compete in the South Perth League as well.

Port Elgin Manager Jim MacKinnon stresses the Blue Devils are not upset by 
the denial, however, they admit they won't be able to cap a terrific season 
at the tournament.

On the year, Port Elgin dominated the league with a record of 22 & 2 plus 
they finished second at the I.S.C. Two World Championships in Wisconsin.
