Bobcaygeon/ Fenelon Falls, Ontario
The weekend started and ended in excitement at the OASA Intermediate "C"
Provincials held this past weekend in Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls.
The first game of the weekend showcased Bobcaygeon Jermyn Lumber vs. Lake
Simcoe Lightning. A great pitching effort, combined with stellar defence
added up to a no-hit effort for Rick May and the Lightning. The final was
4-0. All four runs came off of Bobcaygeon starter Ryan McCue. McCue was
relieved by Dave Taylor after 2, Taylot shut the Lightning bats down the
rest of the way.
The rest of the weekend proved to be very exciting, as there was only one
mercy all weekend.
Fitzroy Harbour W/C Electric made it through the "A" side, defeating Lake
Simcoe and Belmore along the way.
Belmore defeated a weary Lake Simcoe squad (down to one starting pitcher
due to an injury to Jim Chilvers), in a back and forth semi-final, to
advance to the final against Fitzroy Harbour.
The advantage seemed to be with Fitzroy, having defeated Belmore earlier in
the day, however Belmore's starting pitcher Scott Smith led the offensive
attack (2 home runs), as Belmore roughed up Fitzroy starter Troy Wilson.
Belmore ended up winning the first game by a wide margin and it was off to
game two.
Fitzroy Harbour figured to be the favorite in the "if" game by virtue of
the fact that the starting pitcher was the undefeated "Big" Bud Hanlon.
Belmore stuck with what got them there and again started Scott Smith. In
the end Belmore's Scott Smith was too much for Fitzroy, as Smith earned
another complete game win, and Belmore were crowned the 2005 OASA
Intermediate "C" Champions.
Game scores and summaries to follow.
