Canada’s Women National Team Moves to 3-0 at Nebraska Classic
October 14th, 2005

(Ottawa) Softball Canada’s Women’s National Team defeated Colorado State University 1-0
to move its record to 3-0 at the Nebraska Fall Classic.

Ashley Lanz (Winnipeg, MB) earned the win going 7 strong innings, allowing only 3 hits
and striking out 13 batters. Canada scored their only run in the bottom of the 3rd
inning. Megan Timpf (Port Dover, ON) led off the inning by hitting a double to left
field. With 1 out, Timpf advanced to third base on a fielder’s choice by Jen Hunt
(Scarborough, ON). Rachel Schill (Kitchener, ON) then reached base on an error by the
Colorado short stop; Timpf scored on the play. Canada continued to threaten in the
inning as Schill stole second base. Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) was then struck out
to end the inning.

Following the Nebraska Classic, a team of 17 athletes will be selected to represent
Canada at the 2005 Pan American Championships held in Guatemala City from November 26th -
December 4th, 2005. The Pan American Championships serve as a qualifier for the 2007 Pan
American Games and the 2006 World Championships. Canada's next game is tomorrow at 6PM
against Michigan.
