Mitchell Advocate — Planning and preparing for the Monkton World
Invitational Fastball tournament has become a year-long task for the
organizing committee, and once again, they have improved the 2006
tournament.

Bouyed by the successful tournament this past summer, which was even more
successful than the inaugural tournament in 2004, organizers have announced
that the 2006 event will include an exhibition doubleheader on Wednesday,
June 28 featuring the Canadian men’s fastball team, and a chance to purchase
an ultimate platinum weekend p ass just in time for Christmas purchases.
The national team exhibition doubleheader will be against the Kitchener
Twins, the host club for the 2006 International Softball Congress (ISC)
world championships. Also, Chair Brian Baillie announced that the
tournament, which will begin Canada Day weekend once again, will feature a
home run derby plus more to come.

The “ultimate platinum” weekend pass is available for a limited time, or
advance ticket sales only, for just $55 - a $79 total value. Packages
include a weekend tournament pass, one ticket to both Friday and Saturday
night dances, one ticket for the beef barbecue and one ticket for the
Firemen’s brunch on the final day of the tournament. These packages are
available through advance ticket sales only until mid-June.

They are available the first week of December at Mackie’s - Outside the Box,
TJ’s Variety, Elma-Logan Arena or by calling Tim DeBlock, Kevin Quipp or
Tammy Machan.

Perfect as a Christmas gift, for that special someone.

As in the previous two years, local service groups that benefitted directly
from the financial proceeds include the Monkton Optimists, Monkton Lions,
Monkton Kinsmen, the Elma-Logan Fire Department, the Lutheran, United and
Presbyterian churches, the Monkton Figure Skating Club, Monkton Curling Club
and the Monkton Muskrats intermediate fastball team.

“All money raised stays in the community to be spread among all groups and
charities that each service club supports,” Baillie reiterated.
In addition to the money divided, the entire facility has seen a major
injection in upgrades and improvements, such as the lights and the diamond
itself, making it a premiere “world class” ball park.
“More upgrades are to come,” he promised.
“We would like to thank all of our sponsors, both major and local, for their
steadfast support,” Baillie added.
