Finals spot up for grabs in men’s national league
Wednesday December 7th 2005

With only one weekend of round robin play to go in the New ZealandCommunity
Trust men’s National League the fight for top four finals spotsis
reaching the crunch.

While Wellington, North Harbour and Auckland all look to have
bookedtheir place in the finals series the last top four spot
is wide open withthe remaining three teams in the league all
capable of making the topfour if they taste success this weekend.

Going into the last weekend of round robin play Hutt Valley sit
in fourthplace on the points table but they have a tough schedule
ahead of them intheir final four games as they take on Wellington
and Auckland twice atFraser Park, Lower Hutt and have to pick
up some wins too keep theirfinals chances alive.

Another side with a shot at the top for is Southern Pride who
have hadmixed results in the opening rounds of the league. They
had an unbeatenstart to the league on the first weekend but backed
that up with thestring of defeats in week two. With only four
games of round robin playleft for the Southern men they will
have to find that winning form againthis weekend if they are
to qualify for the top four finals series.

For this weekend Southern Pride play Central Vikings twice and
NorthHarbour twice at Hataitai Park, Wellington. From those games
the Southernside will be looking for at least two wins and hopefully
some bonuspoints while also relying on Hutt Valley to lose their
games this weekendif the Southern men are to qualify for the
top four for the first time inthe franchises’ history.

Central Vikings sit at the bottom of the points table and while
they havea mathematical chance of making the top four it will
be a big ask. Thisweekend Central Vikings play Southern Pride
in a double header and theywould have to win both of those games
and then rely on other resultsgoing their way if they were to
qualify for finals weekend.

While the bottom three teams battle it out to stay in the competition
thetop three sides Wellington, North Harbour and Auckland can
book theirtickets now for the finals series and will be using
the games thisweekend to work on combinations and build some
momentum ahead of thefinals.
