Auckland break defending champs unbeaten run + W/P L/P
Saturday December 10th

Auckland have handed the defending champions Hutt Valley their first defeat
in the New Zealand Community Trust women’s National League today with a 2-1
win at Fraser Park, Lower Hutt.

Winning pitcher Helen Packer was the stand out performer in the game as she
pitched her team to the win and also scored both of her side’s runs.

On the mound Packer faced 25 batters and gave up just two hits, three walks
and one run while taking two strikeouts. With the bat Packer hit a
sacrifice fly to left field to score Auckland’s first run and then picked
up a double to left field in the sixth inning to score the winning run.

Auckland took the early advantage in their first at bat when lead off
hitter Mereana Tobenhouse scored on the sacrifice by Packer after
originally getting on base via a walk.

Hutt Valley struck back with their only run of the game in the third inning
as Lici Hina scampered home on a fielding error after getting on base with
a single to centre field.

The defining moment of the game came in the sixth inning when lead off
hitter for Auckland Tania Misa singled to centre field before scoring on a
hit by Packer.

While Packer was strong on the mound for Auckland Hutt Valley pitcher Jana
Vacikova was also in dominant form she faced 24 batters giving up three
hits, two walks and two runs while taking five strikeouts.

The winning run continued for Auckland later in the day as they defeated
Central Vikings in comprehensive fashion 7-0 to maintain their unbeaten run
in the league.

While Hutt Valley have had their unbeaten record broken today it wasn’t all
bad news for the defending champions as earlier in the day they defeated
Wellington 8-1. The results were all bad for the team from the capital
though as along with the loss to Hutt Valley they also suffered a 2-0
defeat against Central Vikings.
