Aussies go into Championship Round undefeated

 

Australia’s co-captain, Natalie Ward, has capped off her recordbreaking
game appearances for Australia by smashing a 300 foot (91.4 metre)
home run in a 9-0 win over China in today’s Canada Cup.


Ward, in her 357th game for Australia, hit three from three scoring
two runs,one in the first inning and a home run in the third
inning. 

 

The Aussie Spirit head into the Championship Round of theCanada
Cup undefeated with seven wins from seven games. 

 

The Australia bats were on fire early in the game withSimmone
Morrow hitting a double off the first pitch of China’s LiuZongxia.
Morrow was able to convert after a single from Sandra Allen to
get onethe Aussies on the board. Allen soon followed with Natalie
Titcume, Ward andDanica Howlett all scoring to take the score
to 5-0 at the bottom of the first.

 

At the bottom of the second Stacey Porter hit a home run andWard
soon followed, with her 300 foot bomb in the third, taking the
score to7-0. 



Titcume and Tracey Mosley scored in the fourth makingChina’s
ask near impossible. 


Australia’spitchers held China’sbats with consistent pitching
from co-captain, Tanya Harding, who pitched threeinnings allowing
only two hits and Kelly Hardie who pitched for two inningsbefore
Australia won withthe run-ahead rule in the fifth. 

 

Head Coach Fabian Barlow has been happy with theteam’s performance
but is focused on the Championship Round saying,“I’m very satisfied
with the team’s performance so far.It’s good to have some wins
under our belts and to give the girls someconfidence, but the
real tournament for me starts tomorrow. It will be then,when
we will really need to bring it to the ball park.”

 

Australia will play the fourth place finisher in the WhitePool
tomorrow morning at 8.30am (AEST).
