Canada falls to the USA in day 2 of World Cup Action

(Ottawa, ON) - Canada lost to the world number one ranked USA
in day 2 of World Cup action in Oklahoma City, Okla., by a score
of 6-1.

Despite being held scoreless for the first three innings by Canadian
starter Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, BC), who came out strong
hitting her zones and keeping the USA offence off balance, the
USA exploded in the fourth inning off of a Louvieanne Jung grand
slam homerun giving the USA a 4 run lead. The USA never looked
backed scoring additional runs in the fifth and seventh inning.

Canada's offense fell short of mounting a comeback being held
to only 5 hits throughout the game. Canada's sole run came at
the hands of a Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) solo homerun over
center field late in the fifth inning.

"The game was closer than the score indicated" stated Lori Sippel,
Head Coach of the Senior Women's National Team. "The difference
came down to managing the third out in the fourth inning. As
a team we are continuing to grow and improve on a daily basis.
The challenge is to learn from the few miscues of this game
and be a better team for it tomorrow."

With the loss, Canada's record drops to no wins and two losses.
Canada will look to improve their record as they face China
in day 3 of World Cup action. For complete statistical information,
