CanadianSoftball Team blanks Chinese Taipei

(BeijingChina) – After the Canadian Senior Women’s Softball Team
was shut down by theAustralian pitchers yesterday in a 2-0 loss,
the red and white bounced backtoday with a 6-0 win over Chinese
Taipei. Lauren Bay Regula (Trail, BC) andRobin Mackin (Newmarket,
ON) combined for the one-hit shutout win, while MeganTimpf (Port
Dover, ON), Erin McLean (Whitby, ON) and Melanie Matthews (Surrey,BC)
drove in all the runs Canada would need.

Thegame was highlighted by the return of Lauren Bay Regula to
the pitching, whowas sidelined most of the summer with an injury.
Bay Regula pitched threescoreless innings while only giving up
one hit and striking out three batters.Robin Mackin came in to
pitch the remaining four innings and retired all twelvebatters
she faced, striking out six.

Atthe plate, Canada opened the scoring in the top of the second
inning whenMelanie Matthews hit a sacrifice fly to score Erin
McLean from third. Theywould add two more runs in the fourth
inning following two run-scoring doublesby Megan Timpf and Melanie
Matthews, increasing the lead to 3-0. Canada thenadded single
runs in each of the final three innings on an RBI double by McLeanin
the 5th, a solo homerun by Timpf in the 6th, and anRBI single,
also off the bat of Timpf, in the 7th. 

ErinMcLean collected four hits and two runs batted in and Megan
Timpf registeredthree hits while driving in three for Canada.
Melanie Matthews, JenniferSalling (Port Coquitlam, BC), Alison
Bradley (Pinkerton, ON), Jennifer Yee(North Delta, BC) and Sheena
Lawrick (Calgary, AB) also registered hits forCanada.

Canada(2-1) will play Chinese Taipei (0-3) again early tomorrow
morning (midnightEDT) before taking on Australia (2-0 at press
time) later that night (9:30pmEDT).

L’équipede softball du Canada blanchit le Taipei chinois

(Beijing,Chine) – Après que l’équipe de softball senior féminine
du Canada a étéblanchit par les lanceuses Australiennes hier
dans une défaite de 2-0, le rougeet blanc a rebondit aujourd’hui
avec une victoire de 6-0 face au Taipeichinois. Lauren Bay Regula
(Trail, C-B) et Robin Mackin (Newmarket, ON) ontcombiné leurs
efforts pour rapporter la victoire, ne laissant qu’un seul coupsûr
aux frappeuses chinoises. Megan Timpf (Port Dover, ON), Erin
McLean(Whitby, ON) et Melanie Matthews (Surrey, BC) ont produit
tous les points quele Canada avait besoin.

Lapartie soulignait le retour de Lauren Bay Regula au cercle
des lanceuses, ellequi a raté la majorité de l’été en soignant
une blessure. Bay Regula a lancétrois manches sans accorder de
point en allouant seulement un coup sûr etretirant trois frappeuses
sur des prises. Robin Mackin a lancée les quatredernières manches
et a retiré toutes les douze frappeuses qu’elle a fait face,retirant
six d’entre-elles au bâton.

Aubâton, le Canada a ouvert le pointage en début de deuxième
manche lorsqueMelanie Matthews a frappé un ballon sacrifice pour
pousser Erin McLean aumarbre du troisième but. L’équipe canadienne
a ensuite ajouté deux autre pointsen quatrième suivant des doubles
d’un point de Megan Timpf et Melanie Matthews,augmentant l’avance
à 3-0. Le Canada a ensuite ajouté un point dans chacune destrois
dernières manches sur un double de McLean en cinquième, un coup
circuitde Timpf en sixième, et un simple, aussi du bâton de Timpf,
en septième.

ErinMcLean a récolté quatre coup sûrs et deux points produits
et Megan Timpf a enregistrétrois coups sûrs en produisant trois
points pour le Canada. Melanie Matthews,Jennifer Salling (Port
Coquitlam, C-B), Alison Bradley (Pinkerton, ON),Jennifer Yee
(North Delta, C-B) et Sheena Lawrick (Calgary, AB) ont aussiajouté
des coups sûrs pour le Canada.

LeCanada (2-1) affrontera le Taipei chinois (0-3) encore une
fois tôt demainmatin (minuit, HAE) avant de se tailler à l’Australie
(2-0 au temps de presse)en soirée (21:30 HAE).
