#3 TNT take Allentown title in rain-shortened event

#2 Knights and #9 Keating’s finish tied for second

The NY Knights competed in the rain shortened Allentown , PA 4th of July tournament this past weekend. Due to the bad weather all games were reduced to 5 innings. The Knights were tied with Keatings in the bottom of the second inning 6-6 when the heavy rain came and ended the event.

TNT was declared the winner as the only undefeated team and the Knights and Keatings tied for 2nd place.

The Knights overall season record now stands at 18-4-1. Bill Hillhouse and Darren Rea pitched for the Knights who were without pitchers Dan Duemo and Craig Pidcock.

Game 1

The Knights jumped on Keatings starter Greg Garrity for 3 first inning runs lead be Steve Price’s 2 run HR and Chad McConnell’s RBI single.

Game 2

The Knights had 4 straight hits off TNT starter Jeremy Tracy capped by a long 3 run HR by John Rozich. Tracy settled in and only allowed 1 hit through the final 4 innings. Knights starter Bill Hillhouse was in command through the first 3 innings and only allowed 3 hits for the game but TNT made those hits count with a long double and 2 Home Runs in the final 2 innings to come from behind for the victory. TNT’s Jay Herr struck the final blow with a walk off HR in the bottom of the 5th.

The Knights continued the trend of scoring in the first inning getting 6 runs in the bottom of the first answering the 3 runs Keatings had put up in the top of the inning. Keatings scored 3 more to tie it up off starter Darren Rea before Hillhouse came in to retire Keatings in the second. The Knights were batting in the 2nd inning when the game and tournament was called due to rain.

Although the weather put a damper on the weekend and limited the Knights to 10 offensive innings the team was able to put up 13 first inning runs off the high caliber pitching we faced in the shortened event.

The Knights are off until the final weekend of the MAFTL July 25-27 in Lancaster , PA.
