Progress for Portage field Set

International Softball Congress- Canada West ISC II Qualifier

The 2005 ISC Canada West ISC II Qualifier is set for June 4-5 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Led by defending Champion ISC II #4 Gladstone Whips who finished 4th in the 40 team ISC II Tournament of Champions in Fargo, North Dakota in 2004 the qualifier is ready to roll with a field of 8 teams.

Included in the field for the 2005 qualifier are 2004 runner-up Portage Phillies as well as Devils Lake Risers, Regina Gold, Regina Century 21 Angels, Cowess Royals, the Manitoba Canada Games (19 & Under) team and Brandon, Manitoba. The field is very similar to 2004 which was very competitive and saw the Championship decided in extra innings.

Pool A will include Gladstone, Devils Lake, Regina Gold and the Canada Games team while Pool B will be comprised of Portage, Regina Century 21, Cowess and Brandon. With teams from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota the field has a nice representation from the Canada West Region with the teams competing for a berth in the ISC II Tournament of Champions to be held in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin in August.

The qualifier is being staged as part of the Progress for Portage Tournament which includes various other events such as youth softball, baseball and women’s fastpitch. In all there will be between 45-50 teams participating in this ball extravaganza over 2 days which showcases the ISC II qualifier as the main event for the weekend on the 2 main diamonds. Republic of Manitobah Park in Portage la Prairie will again be the host facility for the weekend and is located 45 minutes west of Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada Highway, it is an ideal setting with 9 diamonds available to accommodate the event.

The ISC II qualifier is set to commence on Saturday with Round Robin Pool play scheduled for 9:00 – 11:00 – 1:00 – 3:00 – 5:00 – 7:00 and 9:00. Playoffs are scheduled for 9:00 and 11:00 on Sunday with the championship slated for 5:00.
