Alvinston Indians win Pete Schwab Memorial

The Alvinston Indians (Alvinston, Ontario) capped off an undefeated tournament by beating the Lightning (Marshall, MI) 1-0 in the championship game of the 8th Annual Pete Schwab Memorial Tournament which was also 2010 ISC II TOC Qualifying Event Winning pitcher and Tournament MVP Pitcher, Ryan Swift, scored the game’s only run on an inside-the-park HR to right-center field. Shaun Winship closed out the shut-out for his 3rd save of the day. The Alvinston Indians are the first and only repeat champions at the event.

The Twisters (Midland, MI) beat the Duncan Outlaws (Elkhart, IN) 5-1 in the ‘B’ playoff finals, while Gillies Fastpitch (Midland, MI) beat Carey Allstate Insurance (Midland, MI) by a score of 9-2 in the ‘C’ playoff finals.

MVP Pitcher for the tournament was Ryan Swift (Alvinston) with 3 Wins. MVP Hitter for the tournament was Trevor Kelly (Lightning).

For the first time, the tournament also served as a qualifying event for the 2010 ISC II Tournament of Champions (rumored to be headed to near-by Midland, MI). Tournament ISC Representative, Lee Isenhart, will be contacting and offering the bid to the top finishing eligible team(s) [an announcement will be made separately]. As a tournament organizing group, we are very grateful to the ISC for their support of the event.

I’d also like to give special thanks to the entire ‘blue-crew’ who did an outstanding job throughout the weekend. Your efforts and professionalism are greatly appreciated by all the players and fans!

The Pete Schwab tournament is named after a former teammate of ours who passed away 13 years ago just prior to his 21st birthday. We are proud to carry-on his memory in the fast-pitch world by running a first-class tournament and would like to invite all interested teams to contact us about attending next year’s event.
