Mid-Atlantic Travel League results – includes ISC II #6 Keating’s Fitness & ISC II #9 KMV Rise

Lebanon, PA

The Mid-Atlantic Fastpitch Travel League opened it’s doors for business
this past weekend in Lebanon PA, with Lancaster County Motors taking the
Championship Game on Sunday with a 5-2 win over the KMV-Rise. 23 games in
all were played, with 10 teams vying to advance to Sunday’s Championship
round. Lancaster won Division 1 with a 3-1 record, their only loss of the
weekend coming at the hands of the Rise. Key AC of Maryland took top honors
in Division 2, also with a 3-1 record. The Rise from Div 1 advanced to
Sunday by virtue of a 2-2 record, edging out Keatings and South Lebanon on
the ISC runs-allowed rule. The Salisbury MD Shockers finished 2nd in Div 2,
needing a win in their final game of pool play to advance. They came
through in a big way, downing Hagerstown MD 21 Nichols, 12-4.

Sunday’s single elimination rounds matched Lancaster and Salisbury in the
9:00am game. Lancaster sent veteran Earl Rutledge to the circle, and he
responded with 5 solid innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Jason McClune
finished up for Rutledge, pitching 2 scoreless innings. Lancaster continued
their torrid hitting attack, as 4 players connected for 5 HR’s. The 8-3 win
propelled them to the Championship game, awaiting the outcome of the
KMV-Rise vs Key AC game. The Rise dominated this 11:00am game, as they
banged out 11 hits for a 10-0 victory. Tom Vogel took the win in this 5
inning contest, allowing 5 hits and striking out 4. This put the Rise in a
1:00pm match-up with Lancaster for the Championship. Lancaster sent Dave
Stokes to the mound, hoping to avenge an earlier 7-6 loss to the Rise. The
Rise countered with Canadian Tracy Woolridge, who despite an arm injury
pitched 4 gutsy innings. The Rise drew first blood with 1 run in the 1st, a
long blast to left by Bart Fenstermacher, his 2nd HR of the weekend off
Stokes. The Rise made it 2-0 in the 2nd with Chad Walters hitting a
lead-off 2B, scoring on 2 ground outs. This was all that the Black and Red
would muster in the game, as Stokes settled down to allow 2 hits the rest
of the way. Lancaster got to Woolridge in the 3rd, as Stokes connected for
a 2-run HR to left, and took the lead on an Earl Rutledge rbi single.
Lancaster would tack on 2 more in the 5th, as back to back 3B’s following a
BB would end the day for Woolridge. Vogel relieved, and escaped a 2nd and
3rd jam. Stokes came on strong as he set the Rise down in order in the 6th
and 7th innings, finishing with 6K’s for the game.

All-in-all, the 1st weekend of the MAFTL was a huge success, as teams were
pretty much evenly matched in their divisions. By virtue of their finish in
Division 2, Key AC and Salisbury MD Shockers will move up to Division 1 for
the next MAFTL weekend, June 17-19 in Willow Street, PA (Lancaster). South
Lebanon and Landis Markets will move to Division 2 for the Willow Street
weekend. Scheduling and division alignment will be made available shortly,
so stay tuned.

The KMV-Rise Fastpitch Club (ISC II # 9) finished out the 1st weekend in
the Mid-Atlantic Fastpitch Travel League
(www.maftl.com)
with a 3-3 record, losing in the

Championship game to Lancaster County Motors, 5-2. The Rise opened play
Friday, losing 5-1 to South Lebanon TNT. Game 2 slated the Rise against
Lancaster County Motors, winning 7-6. The Rise then took on Landis Markets
and dropped a close one in 8 innings, 7-6. Needing a win to advance to
Sunday’s single elimination round, the Rise came on strong as they defeated
Keatings Fitness (ISC II # 6) 11-1 in 5 innings. That propelled them
against Division 2 winner, Key AC. The Rise continued where they left off,
hanging a loss on Key 10-0. That set-up a rematch against Lancaster, who
advanced with an 8-3 win in their semi-final game. The Rise was to be
denied the Championship, as newly acquired pitcher Dave Stokes limited the
Rise to 2 runs on 4 hits.

The KMV-Rise will be in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario June 3-5 for the
