With play now completed in the Gopher State ISC Travel League, Commisioner Les Novak awarded berths to the top three teams in the Travel League to the 2005 ISC II Tournament of Champions in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
When the dust settled, #17 ASB-Villard (St. Paul) and #33 Fisher Group (Mankato) tied for the lead with records of 4-5. Vannelli’s (St. Paul) finished third at 3-6 while #11 Chub’s Pub Wizards (Fargo, ND) ended at 2-7, despite being shorthanded on the weekend. All rankings are based on June 1 ISC II Rankings.
The bids went down to Sundays games and the games were exciting to say the least. Fisher Group downed Chub’s 6-5 while Villard defeated Vannelli’s 8-4.
In the final round of games, both games went extra innings. Villard took 10 innings to dispatch of Chub’s 6-5 on Jack Rowan’s solo home run in the top of the 10th.
Vannelli’s defeated Fisher Group 7-5 in 9 innings, completing a run by Vannelli’s that saw them go 0-5 in the first weekend.
Fisher Group’s Brian Looft tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, when down by 2 runs and down to their last strike, he tripled to score runners from first and second.
Travis Kunz gave Vannelli’s the lead in the top of the 9th with a 3-run home run. Fisher Group threatened with one run in the bottom of the 9th but Vannelli’s held on.
