MAFTL kicks off this weekend

The Mid-Atlantic Fastpitch Travel League kicks off this weekend in Lebanon, PA with 10 teams playing in two divisions, including four of the top 6 ranked teams in ISC II.

Defending ISC II champion and #1-ranked South Lebanon TNT are looking to get their season started on the right foot with ace Jeremy Tracy and ISC II MVP Jay Herr leading the charge.

Ryan Cummings will make his debut for the #3 Hoffman Rise while #5 Keating’s Fitness will feature several new additions, including pitcher Mike Crawford.

Bill Hillhouse will be with Fox Hill for the MAFTL games, but will pitch for the #6 New York Knights in ISC II play. Joining the Knights for league games will be ex-Niagara Snapper Dan Duemo.

#20 Pennsylvania Power will also be looking to get to the 2008 ToC and will look to youngster Ryan Rutt to lead the way.

Returning to the MAFTL is Rob Fawcett. With Keating’s last year, Fawcett will take to the mound for Adco in 2008 while Shaun Winship will be throwing for Virginia Merchants.

Additional MAFTL weekends are June 20-22 and July 25-27.

#15 Kitchener Outlaws finish second at Millgrove Earlybird

ISC II #15 Kitchener Outlaws mounted a furious seven-run comeback attempt against the Elmira Advance Millwrights Jrs in the final of the Millgrove Earlybird Tournament, but came up a run short, dropping an 8-7 decision in 8 innings.

Earlier, the Outlaws knocked off #13 Bridgeport in their A semi-final, while Elmira, with P Danny Martin (who will be with the Outlaws in the ToC), edged Toronto Celtix.

#8 Waterdown Hammer won the B Final over #37 Rockwood Rush.

ASB-Villard ISC II Roster and Schedule

General manager Dave Dziengel is pleased to announce the upcoming schedule and team members for the 2008 ASB-Villard men’s fastpitch season.

ASB will be starting their 40thyear of competitive men’s fastpitch softball and are looking to improve ontheir 32-17 record in 2007. With the ISC II’s returning stateside ASB-Villard has accepted a bid to attend the ISC II Tournament of champions in Appleton, Wisconsin after a two-year lay off.

In league play ASB-Villard will be competing in the always tough Freeport Select league, Freeport, Minnesota and also in the West St. Paul league in West St. Paul, Minnesota. Before the season starts we would like to thank long time booster Larry Zavadil of American Solutions for Business in Glenwood, Minnesota for his long time and continued support of fastpitch softball in Minnesota and Brett Breshnahan for the construction and upkeep of our team’s website. Look for the Villard website to be updated early next week.

Millgrove Early Bird Tournament

The Millgrove Early Bird Tournament kicks off tonight in Waterdown, Ontario with six games. This tournament continues to grow and improve. TNT tops ISC II Preseason Rankings

May 6, 2008 – South Lebanon, PA TNT will open the defence of their ISC II crown atop the rankings. TNT topped a selection of nearly 50 teams considered by the ISC II ranking committee.

Rankers slotted the 2007 ISC II Tournament of Champions finalists California Lumberkings in second place while a revamped Perkasie, PA Rise lineup comes in at #3.

Team Chicago wins ISC II berth at Hustlehog Icebreaker

Team Chicago earned a berth in the 2008 ISC II Tournament of Champions with their runner-up finish to Aurora Dolan & Murphy at the 2nd annual Hustlehogs Icebreaker tournament this past weekend in DeKalb, Il.

Team Chicago defeated the host Hustlehogs 9-5 in the semis to earn the berth after D&M had defeated Villa Grove Log Cabin in the other semi.

Hustlehogs Icebreaker Qualifier Saturday Scores

The DeKalb Hogs opened up the 2008 season with 2 wins in the second annual Hustlehogs Icebreaker. Heavy rains and cold winds forced the action to be called off for the remainder of the day with games to continue Sunday morning.

In game 1 the Hogs received a no hitter from Brian Tobin (4IP 0H 0ER 9K BB) and Brian also added a grand slam in the victory. Scott Beal and Joe Crouch also homered. The Hogs won 12-0. Joe Crouch was 2×2 with a HR, Chad Crutcher was 2×2 with 2BB’s and Tommy Crouch was 1×1 with 2 BB’s.

In game 2 Tommy Crouch (2×2 BB 3R) homered twice and drove in 5 runs. Scott Beal also homered and drove in 3 runs. Joe Crouch picked up the win and struck out 12 in 5 innings.
