Minesing pull out a 7-6 win over the Toronto Bingos in the B Final. The scores and stats as best we could decipher were as follows. We would like to thank all who participated this year. We believe it was a undeniable success and we look forward to improving on it next year.

#5 Rise make two pickups for ToC

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Editor’s note: The Rise, among other U.S. teams, have taken a bit of a beating on one particular message board that we won’t credit by naming here, suffice it to say that knowledgeable people in the game know that the Rise are a quality team and will be heard from come the ToC. The following is from Rise GM and pitcher Tom Vogel.

To those who have been inquiring.

The Rise Team have added 2 pickups for the ToC. From the Lancaster County Motors Team, catcher Ted Simes will be joining us. Ted played for the Rise at the Snapper Shoot-Out and also this past weekend in Allentown. He’s a very capable receiver and has some punch in his bat. (When he’s not breaking them. Ouch $$$$). And from the restricted Ontario pitchers list, Ben Blonde will be suiting up for the Rise. The last time I saw Ben pitch was with Norwich in Fargo. Gutsy lefty and he comes with good credentials. Ben will be with us for our last travel weekend July 14-16 in Lyons, PA. We look forward to what he brings to the circle.

As far as our team taking a flop at the ToC, you know nothing about us. OK, we didn’t hit last year and had a sub-par showing; check out previous ToC’s and post that. We don’t rest on our laurels and have made additions when needed, and our team measures up nicely to any of this years’ participants. We ‘Americans’ don’t make excuses; we come to play and in the end, win or lose you’ll know that we were in your face.

So, keep posting your predictions, berating the American teams, and general gibberish that we find so amusing. Maybe you can buy me a beer and we’ll talk about what a great game it is that we play. Won’t be hard to find me; I don’t hide behind a keyboard.

Allentown, PA tourney features #5 Rise along with TNT, PA Power and Bob Hoffman’s

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Patriots 4th of July Tourney Opens Friday Night

Defending champ Keating Fitness Center of Wilkes-Barre is among the eight teams in the field of this year’s Allentown Patriots’ 4th of July Classic. The 41st annual tourney — it began in 1965 and has been held every year since except 1976 — begins with a pair of games Friday night at Pates Park. The KMV Rise play Bob Hoffman’s of Reading, a new team in the field, in the 7 p.m. opener. That game will be followed by the host Pates Petro Kings taking on PA Power of Harrisburg.

The round-robin tourney, sponsored by Allentown Beverage, Coca-Cola of the Lehigh Valley and the Allentown Patriots, continues with 10 games throughout the day on Saturday — two at Percy Ruhe Park — and then concludes Sunday with the semifinals in the morning and the title game at 12:30 p.m.

Keating is led by the pitching of Bill Hillhouse and Ontario native Gregg Garrity, last year’s tourney MVP. Mark Smith, Dave Martin and Justin Stock highlight the offense.

The KMV Rise, last year’s tourney runner-up, feature the 2005 most valuable pitcher, Tom Vogel, as well as veteran stars Matt Daley and Allentown native Mike Smith.

The Rise won the Niagara Snapper tournament earlier this month and is ranked No. 5 in the latest ISC II world rankings.

The host team could also be a factor. The Pates, led by Jeff Hess, Bob Thomas and Tom Stinner, have already qualified for the ASA Class C nationals in Georgia.

Other potential favorites include TNT South Lebanon, which features the pitching of Jeremy Tracey and Scott Adams and the offense of Bob Wengert, Mike Rohrer, and Paul Batt.

PA Power won last year’s ASA Class C national title and Mattarazzo Brothers is the defending ASA men’s 40&over national champions and feature Whitehall’s Reno Lato.

All-series tickets for the tourney cost $7 and daily tickets cost adults $3, seniors $2.
