ISC II #4 Niagara Snappers win Niagara Falls, ON tournament

Monday, August 8th, 2005

Niagara Falls, ON

The Niagara Snappers captured their 4th tournament title of the year, successfully defending their Niagara Falls Tournament “A” title by racking up a 5-0 record on the weekend to raise their season record to 49-14. The Snappers pounded out 15 home runs in the 5 games that they played and outscored their opposition 43-2.

Niagara mercied every team they saw in round robin play starting with the St. Catharines Red Hot Chili Pepper 13-0. Next up was the Port Burwell Mariners 10-0 and to finish off round robin play, the Snappers took it to Elkland, PA Fastpitch 9-0.

With a round robin 3-0 record and a runs for/against of +21, the Snappers were ranked #1 in the “A division” and faced off against the Blenheim Home Run Restaurant. Niagara prevailed 3-1 over the young, scrappy team. Kudos to Blenheim for showing alot of heart and determination, they’re definitely a team to watch for in the future. Niagara and Blenheim were tied 1-1 going into the top of the 6th when the Snappers offense finally got in gear and pushed 2 runs across the plate. Those 2 runs would be all the Snapper’s Byron Demoe would need as he threw a 3-hitter to win his second game of the tournament.

In the finals, the Snappers met up with the Toronto Celtix. Facing the always tough Toronto thrower Steve Ketchell, the Snappers pounded out 8 hits en route to an 8-1 (5-inning mercy) win. Dan Duemo picked up the win for the Snappers tossing a 2-hitter. Scott Young and Jim Wilson homered to pace the Snappers offense.

Danny Duemo of the Niagara Snappers was named MVP Pitcher going 3-0 with 15IP 3H 26K 1BB 0.33 ERA in 3 games as well as throwing a no hitter in the 9-0 victory over Elkland.

Kevin Newhouse of the Niagara Snappers was named MVP Player going 8-13 with 4 home runs and 9 RBI’s in 5 games.

Next up for the Snappers is 2 GHFL League games this week before heading off to their first ISC II ToC in Eau Claire, WI. With 65 games under their belt by the time they get there, the Snappers have seen their fair share of ball this year in preparation for playing the best North America has to offer. The Snappers open up the tournament on Sunday at 3pm against the Bar of Appleton.

ISC II #5 Palermo Athletics win Ontario Intermediate Eliminations

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

Includes scores for ISC II #1 Tavistock Merchants, #5 Palermo Athletics, #10 Port Elgin Blue Devils, #30 Cobourg Stingers, #32 Elmira Cubs and Alvinston Indians (Pool E).

Some tough injuries in this tournament as Port Elgin pitcher Scott Christie and Port Elgin pickup Jeremy Osbourne (pitching for his club team Highgate Rock) were both hurt running the bases. Port Elgin’s Rob Fawcett pitched nearly every game for the Blue Devils before running out of steam in the loser’s bracket final … veteran Toronto-area pitcher Steve Ketchell did a fine job for Palermo … it will be interesting to see if he’s on their final roster for the ToC … Bridgeport’s Jim Schnarr pitched very well for Elmira according to all accounts … Cobourg talked to several players about coming with them to the ToC over the course of the weekend.
