#3 NY Knights MAFTL recap

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

The NY Knights went 3-0 in the league play on Saturday, July 26 finishing the MAFTL regular season with a league best 7-1-1 record and earning # 1 seed for the playoff round. In league play the Knights defeated The Rise, TNT and Cornerstone Excavating. We opened the playoff round Saturday night with a win over Cornerstone before losing to Keating’s in the semi’s on Sunday morning. The Knights season record now stands at 22-5-1. Details of the weekend as follows:

League Play
Game 1
Knights 1 1 1 2 1 2 3 – 11 19 2

WP – Dyke 7 IP, 2R, 8 H, 6 K, 0BB
LP – Bauer 3IP, McClune 4 IP
Knights – Chad McConnell, Dave Simon and Steve Price each had HRs for the Knights. This game was not indicative of the close games we have played all year with TNT as they were resting their ace Jeremy Tracy.

Game 3
Knights 0 4 2 0 1 4 3 – 14 14 1
Cornerstone 3 0 2 0 1 0 0 – 6 10 1

Platt 1 IP, 0R, 2 H, 0 K, 0BB
LP -K. Obrehelizer 7IP
Knights – Steve Platt hit 2 HRs and George McConnell added a solo shot for the Knights. Aussie Damien Stewart saw his first action of the year as an injury prevented him from pitching during his season at home. He was able to battle through the rust and pick up the win.

Playoffs
Game 4
Cornerstone 2 0 2 0 1 0 1 0 0 – 6 10 2

WP – Dyke 5 IP, 2R, 5H, 10K, 0BB
LP- J. Obrehelizer 10IP
Knights’ 14 straight hours at the fields and our 4th straight game took their toll on the Knights in this one as youth almost prevailed. The young Cornerstone team gave the Knights all we could handle forcing 2 extra frames before we could come away with the victory. Reggie Barrua was a one man show for the Knights in this one going 3-3 with a HR, 3 RBI including the game winner. Barrau also stole home with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings.

Game 5
Playoffs
Keatings 0 0 2 3 1 3 x – 9 12 1

Knights- The Knights offense couldn’t get much going and Keating’s offense jumped on the Knights pitching staff for 9 runs and 12 hits in a 6 inning run rule shortened game. Dave Simon’s HR was the lone bright spot for the Knights in this game.

The Knights will be back in action Aug 1-3 in Holland Patent, NY for our last tune up before the ISC II TOC.

#17 Wyevale Tribe sweep a pair from Snappers

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Elmvale, ON – via Al’s Fastball

On a cool Elmvale evening the Wyevale Tribe upended the Niagara Snappers in both halves of their double header. The games were quick as pitching reigned supreme on this night.

Game 1
Wyevale 2
Niagara 0

WP Graham McNabb
LP Byron Demoe

McNabb threw a 1 hitter I believe and Demoe surrendered only 2 hits is memory serves correct. Chris Bell hit a inside the park 2 run homerun to provide all the scoring in the game.

Game 2
Wyevale 2
Niagara 1

WP Jason Giffen
LP Jamie Simpson

Trevor Falk hit a solo shot in the top of the 6th to tie it, but an unearned run in the bottom of the 6th broke the tie and put Simpson on the losing end of this one. Both Giffen and Simpson were very effective in this one also.

We do appreciate Niagara making their way up to our neck of the woods, and look forward to our return there in July.
