ISC Guides Now Available

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

[Salt Lake City, UT] – The 2007 edition of the annual ISC World Championship Guide is now available for purchase. This new edition has 152 pages filled with information about the 2006 ISC World Tournament, the 2006 ISC II Tournament of Champions, 2006 Developmental Tournaments for both 23U and U19 teams. It contains historical records of most offensive, defensive and pitching statistics going back to 1947. The 2007 Guide has more photos than any prior editions. The Hall of Fame section has 8-pages of photos of 2006 inductees and the text of a very inspirational talk given by 12 year old Johnathon Baker of Kitchener. It also includes a complete list of all Hall of Fame inductees, by year and the rules for nominating someone for Hall of Fame consideration. Photos of all 32-World Tournament teams, World Tournament umpires, ISC II umpires and ISC Commissioners are in full color. It shows the following from 1947 to present: ISC World Champions, Most Valuable Players, Outstanding Pitchers, Leading Hitters and Most RBI. It has a great feature article on Dave Blackburn and his streaming team’s efforts to successfully provide video streaming of world tournament games from Kitchener last year. There are more than 20 pages of ISC II coverage including dozens of photos, team and individual stats and all-time ISC II records. There’s also the all-time list of ISC All-World players, from 1947 thru 2006, and a separate list of the 47 players making All-World teams 5 or more times. The Guide contains ISC rules and newly revised Region definitions.

Orders for the Guide can be handled in two different manners.

1. From our web site www.iscfastpitch.com click on ISC Products and follow the links. Payment is made by Visa or Mastercard.

2. Mail a $7.50US check or money order, payable to ISC, to Ken Hackmeister – 153 E. 200 S. – #10 Farmington, UT 84025. Or email to iscken@comcast.net to order and pay by Visa or Mastercard. We feel all fastball fans and players will want to have the 2007 ISC World Championship Guide for their collection as well as seeing some very interesting articles, stats and photos.

Roster & OOR Reminder

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

From ISC Executive Director Ken Hackmeister

Preliminary Rosters & Out of Region Filing Reminder

Friday, March 16, 2007

The May 1 deadline for ISC teams to file preliminary rosters and Out of Region forms, is rapidly approaching.

This is a reminder of the upcoming deadline.

Preliminary Rosters – Preliminary rosters for both World Tournament and ISC II teams are also due May 1. The roster form is found on the ISC Web Site www.iscfastpitch.com Click on Rules and Forms in the left margin. Preliminary rosters are to be submitted to the proper statisticians whose email addresses appear on the roster form itself. Review saving and filing process covered in PRAWN filings above.

Letter of Intent – Out of Region (OOR) Form – The 2007 season begins the new Out of Region concept, replacing the former Out of Area plan. The newly revised Out of Region form is also displayed on the ISC web site in the Rules and Forms page. To save teams and players time and to avoid 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation faxes, we will accept an OOR form without the players signature, provided the player sends an email to iscken@comcast.net, stating their intention to play for XYZ team in 2007. That email must arrive no later than May 1 and the team manager can mail the actual OOR form.

The operation is the same as the former Out of Area program. The forms and fee must be postmarked to the ISC Executive Director no later than May 1. The first three OOR players per team are subject to a $100 fee each. The fourth and subsequent OOR players per team are subject to a $300 fee each.

Out of Region rules apply to both ISC World Tournament and ISC II teams.

If anyone has difficulty downloading or printing these forms from the web site, please email iscken@comcast.net and a form or forms will be sent back to you as an email attachment.

A bit more on the Best of the West:

The image above is from an old T-shirt from the 2nd Best of the West in 1992, in the days when the “Bombers” were from Vista 😉 Recognize any of those other teams?

The tournament was started by Al Ruegsegger and originally played at Joe Rodgers Field in Long Beach, and now enters its 17th year in a row, the longest running men’s open tournament in California. For many years now, the tournament has been headed up for years by the ISC’s streaming media maven, David Blackburn. It’s been played at Palmdate, Soboba, Winchester, and last year and this year in beautiful Santa Barbara.

The ballpark is a few blocks from the ocean. Want to go to the tournament but don’t feel like driving? Catch Amtrak. . Union Station in downtown LA is an easy drive on the weekend, and you can enjoy a cold one enroute, and snooze on the way home. The Sunday morning trains will get you there in time for the semis and finals. (That’s what Maddy and I did last year) The train station is just .7 of a mile from the fields. .Click here to see the ballpark. .

ISC II Introduces New Roster & Team Registration Process

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

August 6, 2007 Final Deadline for ISC/ISCII Rosters

In a continuing effort to streamline our overall operation and at the same time, reduce both expense and volunteer requirements for tournament hosts, beginning in 2007 the ISC will implement a new team roster and team registration process at the World Tournament and ISC II Tournament of Champions.

The former 3-part roster form is being eliminated and replaced with a single copy form that is available on line or will be email attached to those requesting it. The new form is currently displayed at www.iscfastpitch.com. Click on Rules & Forms in the left margin of front page. You can save this form, to your computer, from the web site display.

For both World Tournament and ISC II teams, the roster form must be submitted three times per season; May 1, July 15 and the Monday preceding the start of the ISC World Tournament. In 2007, this final date is August 6.

The May 1 date is a “preliminary” roster and a mandatory PRAWN declaration date for those teams having PRAWN players. May 1 will also continue being the due date for Out of Region (formerly Out of Area) player forms.

July 15 is the deadline for rosters to be in the hands of the championship tournaments host for use in the printed tournament program.

August 6 will be the final deadline for rosters used in the 2007 World Tournament and ISC II Tournament of Champions.

All rosters are to be emailed to the appropriate Statisticians whose addresses appear on the roster form itself.

The overall process involves each team “saving” their first roster on their computer. Then as subsequent due dates arrive, only changes need to be made to the saved form.

This process will eliminate the need for the former Team Registration ordeal on the Friday morning preceding the start of the World Tournament. The mandatory team manager meeting will still be held at 12 noon on the beginning Friday. Outside the manager meeting room, tables will be set up for distribution of materials for each team. Player and immediate family member tournament passes will be distributed based on the August 6 roster submission. This distribution process will begin around 10 AM and continue until after the manager meeting concludes. ISC personnel, Umpires, Hall of Fame inductees and others requiring credentials will also pick up outside the manager meeting room.

The Statisticians will also be available during this distribution process, to make any last minute roster changes.

For ISC II, the above process will be used but the manager meeting and credentials distribution will take place preceding the start of the ISC II Tournament of Champions. Time and location will be announced later.

To download a copy of the new roster form, click here.

(It’s an Excel file, so choose “save” to save to your computer’s hard drive, or “open” if you want to open it.)

If you don’t have Excel (which is part of Microsoft Office) and don’t want to $pring for it, try the open source freebie, “Open Office”.

Click here to visit the official ISC website page with for Rules and Forms. You’ll find the new 2007 Roster under “Forms”, right at the top.

Micksburg wins UOVMFL playoff title for third year in a row

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Micksburg, ON
UOVMFL: http://ca.geocities.com/fitzroyfastball/UOVMFL.htm

The Micksburg Twins won the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League playoff final series with a 4-1 series win in the best-of-seven series over the Pontiac Royals from Bryson, Quebec. All games were very close, with the largest margin of victory being a 3 run win by Micksburg in the final game.

This is the third consecutive playoff title for the Twins in UOVMFL play, who also won the regular season title. Micksburg also finished tied for third at the Tournament of Champions for ISC II teams in Kitchener this summer.

Micksburg was led by ToC MVP Corey Costello, who threw four shutouts in his four wins, allowing only two runs and eleven hits in the 36 innings of work over five complete games in the final. Costello also had two no-hitters.

Veteran lefty Len Burger threw very well for Pontiac before going down to a knee injury. Burger lost the first game despite throwing a two hitter and won the second game in eight innings with a one hitter. Darren Featherstone and Mark Wright also threw for the Royals.

Game four was a hitless game, as Micksburg scored their two runs on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk.

The only home run of the series was hit by Corey Costello, a solo shot that won the first game of the series by a 1-0 score.

There was some controversy in the series, with allegations of pitchers deliberately throwing at batters, and even a player getting involved with fans. See the links below for stories on each game. The series was plagued by rain as three games had to be postponed.

Pontiac had previously beaten the Shawville, QC Athletics in the semi-finals 3 games to 1 in the best-of-five.

The Upper Ottawa Valley League was down to three teams this season after Beachburg, ON NRTCo dropped out in June. Fitzroy Harbour, ON WC Electric and Quyon, QC Junior Flyers played an affiliate schedule with the league. There has been discussions of a possible team from Cobden, ON joining the league for 2007.

Game Results in the finals:

Game 1 at Micksburg
Micksburg 1 Pontiac 0
WP – Costello (no-hitter); LP – Burger (two-hitter).
