Ottawa, ON

Both the Upper Ottawa Valley Men’s Fastball League and the Greater Ottawa
Fastball league wrapped up their first three weeks of play this past
weekend, including one week of the first ever inter-lock between the two
Eastern Ontario/West Quebec intermediate loops.

Standings after 3 weeks:

Greater Ottawa GP W L T Pts

Kanata Team Easton 4 2 1 1 5
Manotick Lomor Printers 3 2 1 0 4
Stittsville 56ers 4 2 2 0 4
Fitzroy WC Electric 2 0 1 1 1

Upper Ottawa Valley GP W L T Pts

Campbell’s Bay Royals 3 2 1 0 4
Micksburg Twins 3 2 1 0 4
Beachburg NRTco 2 1 1 0 2
Shawville Hursty’s Bar 3 1 2 0 2

GOFL Defending Champions, Kanata Team Easton (ISC II #5) had two wins over
Stittsville (5-1) and a victory in an interleague game over the Ottawa
Valley Raiders (5-0). Kanata also played Fitzroy Harbour to a scoreless
draw over seven innings, with Dan Konkle throwing a three hit shutout.
Konkle had both wins for Team Easton. Team Easton’s defeat was 3-1 at home
to Shawville in interlock play – Bill Gerber took the pitching loss. Team
Easton will be picking up some players from the 56ers for the ISC II
Qualifier in Blackburn on June 24-26.

UOVMFL Defending Champions, Micksburg Twins (ISC II #21) defeated Shawville
4-1 at home to start the season. Kevin Humphries had a homer for the Twins.
In interlock play Corey Costello threw a perfect game, including 18
strikeouts, in a 10-0 win at home against Manotick. Jamey Mick had a home
run for Micksburg. Corey Costello suffered a rare regular season loss on May
16, as cousin Shawn Costello led Beachburg to a 2-0 victory. Micksburg will
also be participating in the ISC II Qualifier in Blackburn, bolstered with
additions from the Beachburg league team.

Manotick won their first two games, with Trevor Lahey getting both decision.
Lomor defeated Fitzroy Harbour at home in their first game with Don Cox and
Bobby Jack Hart hitting home runs in a 6-4 victory. Manotick also defeated
Stittsville 5-0 with Lahey throwing a no-hitter. Lindsay Medynski had a
grand slam for Manotick and Tim Power had a solo shot. Manotick will be
participating in the ISC II Qualifier in Blackburn and the “masters” aged
players on the team will also be participating in the World Games in
Edmonton. Manotick will be hosting a tournament the weekend of June 3-5 to
help raise funds for this trip.

Stittsville started slow with losses to Kanata and Manotick but rebounded
for victories against Blackburn Bombers (8-0) in interleague play and
Campbell’s Bay (8-2) in interlock play. Dan Bradley had all the pitching
decisions for the 56ers. Home run hitters for Stittsville were Scott
Herriott, Darren Featherstone, Greg McMillan, Ryan Bond, John Craig and Sam
Oliver with two in the Campbell’s Bay match up.

Fitzroy Harbour lost to Manotick in their first game, with Bud Hanlon taking
the loss. Jason Armstrong and Shawn Rebertz hit homers in the 6-4 defeat.
The next game saw the WC Electric tie Kanata and Dan Konkle 0-0. Three
Electric pitchers combined to limit Kanata to two hits. Fitzroy Harbour
also participated in the Kingston tournament over the May long weekend,
finishing with a disappointing 0-3 record. Fitzroy Harbour will be
participating in the ISC II Qualifier in Blackburn.

Campbell’s Bay Royals started off strongly with convincing 10-1 and 9-1 road
wins over Beachburg and Shawville respectively. Veteran lefty Lenny Burger
had both wins for the Royals. The home opener did not go as well as
expected for the Royals as they lost 8-2 to Stittsville in interlock play.
Matt Greer had two homers during May for Campbell’s Bay.

Beachburg started slow with a 10-1 loss at home to Campbell’s Bay, but then
defeated defending champions Micksburg 2-0 at home. Shawn Costello had both
pitching decisions for Beachburg. Beachburg was scheduled to play Fitzroy
Harbour in interlock play but the game was postponed and will be made up
later in the season.

Shawville began the season with two losses (4-1 to Micksburg and 9-1 to
Campbell’s Bay). However, the interlock game on the road with Kanata got
Shawville in the win column with a 3-1 victory, with Mark Wright notching
the pitching victory. Todd Fraser had a home run for Shawville.
