A-1 Tank merges with NorCal Mavericks, sign Gerald Pyle for ISC II ToC

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

Some ISC II news from Northern California from Jim Flanagan’s Fastpitchwest forum:

Sledgehammer22 wrote:
News Break!!! Fresh off the phone with Chris Wright of the Nor Cal Mavericks. The Mavericks have announced a merger between them and A-1 Tank. The deal was said to be done last week and the details have been ironed out. The team will take on the A-1 Tank name and compete at the ISC II level. Wright, who will assume the duties of General Manager and Field Manager, says the merger is a two year deal with options after the first year. The merger instantly makes the northern California based team a serious player at the “B” level and ISCII level. When asked about the deal, Wright added, “It’s tough to watch my Mavericks team name go but this could turn out to be a great thing for Nor Cal fastpitch. I’m excited for the season to start.” The Mavericks look to compete in Red Rock, Portland and a travel league in preparation for the Tournament of Champions. Details of the roster will be released later this month. In other news, The So Cal Bombers are rumored to be close to a deal with “a star pitcher.” More to come.

GERALD PYLE THE G MAN JUST SIGNED WITH A-1 TANK TODAY, AS A PITCHER,AN A BIG BAT STAY TOON FOR MORE UP DATES WITH THE MERGE. GENERAL MANGER BOB PIDDOCK,MANGER CHRIS WRIGHT,AND ASST MANGER SHAWN CHING

NorCal Mavericks finished 3rd in NAFA AA last year while A-1 Tank were in the top 10 in NAFA A Major. Gerald Pyle is a kid with tons of potential – he’s been named to the USA developmental squad even tho’ he’s never pitched any higher than ASA “C”. Could these guys be a team to look out for?

Season wrap up reports welcome

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Following up on Al Doran’s suggestion, please take the time and send a “Season Wrap Up” for your team to Al Doran email to fastball@pmihrm.com and The Deuce live@ballparkradio.com.

As Al says, there’s not much ball from here on in until spring, except for down under mostly so this kind of report is most welcome for fastball starved fans world wide – especially North American where we will soon be headed into fastball hibernation for a few months.

With almost every serious men’s team with at least one quality writer who takes the time to write up their games and tournaments, how about sending out your year-end wrap up!

So this is an open invitation to every serious men’s fastball team out there to do the same – be it ISC, ISC II, NAFA, OASA, ASA, or whatever, send us your year-end report. Dan Bernard says it only takes 10 minutes to put a report together, so let’s hear from ALL of you!

Next we will be watching for your announcement of who is on your team in 2006 when you are ready for an official press release. Until then, tid bits are welcome.

Bridgeport Braves named 2006 ISC II Host Team

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

Kitchener, On

The selection committee that was assembled to choose a host team for the ISC II T of C next year in Kitchener, has made their recommendation to the Host Committee, which last night was approved unanimously.

I am pleased to announce and congratulate the Bridgeport Proforma Braves for their selection.

Bridgeport is a veteran Club, that plays in the South Perth Men’s Fastball League and were crowned Champions of the league a few weeks back in Mitchell On.

Some of their most recent accomplishments have been placing 11th in the 2005 T of C in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin, 2nd in the Innerkip Tournament, 3rd in the Innerkip ISC II qualifier tournament and 2nd in the K-W Pride Tournament in St. Clements On. They have also finished 2nd or 3rd the last two years in the South Perth Playoff Tournament.

The Braves history goes back to the early 1940’s when they were originally known as the Bridgeport Vets, of which the grandfather of the current Schnarr Brothers was the original Coach. Bridgeport has continued on with the family atmosphere on the team, lead by the 3 Schnarr Brothers, (Jim, Jodie and Jay) and 2 Dickson Brothers, (Andy and Jodie) all hailing from the Bridgeport area of Kitchener.

The current team boasts 11 players from the City of Kitchener, 1 from Woodstock and 2 from Guelph, which makes them a very local Host Team for next years T of C.

Along with the Braves as the host team, we also have the Elmira Cubs who play right outside the city limits of Kitchener-Waterloo as the Defending Champions of the ISC II 2005 T of C. So this should boad well, for the local community fan and supporter base.

The Host Committee is already working hard in getting things organized for 2006, and we look forward to being your host next August.
