First Annual PROforma ALL-STAR Challenge Cup

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Blair Setford to Broadcast Live at 9pm Thursday Night

Kitchener, Ontario – August 4, 2006 – The Golden Horseshoe Fastball League and the South Perth Men’s Fastball League are pleased to announce the creation of a brand new event taking place at the site of the 2006 ISC World Fastball Tournament.

The PROforma ALL-STAR Challenge Cup, sponsored by local promotional products distributor PROforma Promotions, will be held on Thursday, August 10th at 9:00 PM at the Peter Hallman Ball Yard in Kitchener. The event will pair all-star teams from the GHFL & SPMFL in a tournament kick-off challenge match.

“I am very excited to sponsor this new event,” states Ken Doucet, owner of PROforma Promotions, the official merchandise supplier of the 2006 Schneiders ISC World Men’s Fastball Tournament. PROforma also supplied the merchandise for the 2002 Schneiders ISC World Men’s Fastball Tournament.

“We’re doing everything we can to try to re-fire interest in men’s fastball in Ontario and events like the PROforma All-Star Challenge are a great way to build some friendly rivalries between leagues,” said GHFL President Blair Setford. “South Perth is widely recognized as one of the top leagues around, but we think that we’re going to surprise a lot of people with how good the GHFL team will be.”

“South Perth teams have won the past three ISC II Championships and we’ve got a lot of great players, but we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said South Perth president George Nahrgang.

“We’re thrilled that PROforma has stepped up to be the title sponsor and I expect that competition for the PROforma All-Star Cup is going to be fierce every year,” said Setford.

The lone run came in the first inning when Kraig Sommers doubled and scored one out later on a single by Casey Eden. Ashland never got a runner past second base against winning pitcher Jonas Mach. #5 Rise make two pickups for ToC

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Editor’s note: The Rise, among other U.S. teams, have taken a bit of a beating on one particular message board that we won’t credit by naming here, suffice it to say that knowledgeable people in the game know that the Rise are a quality team and will be heard from come the ToC. The following is from Rise GM and pitcher Tom Vogel.

To those who have been inquiring.

The Rise Team have added 2 pickups for the ToC. From the Lancaster County Motors Team, catcher Ted Simes will be joining us. Ted played for the Rise at the Snapper Shoot-Out and also this past weekend in Allentown. He’s a very capable receiver and has some punch in his bat. (When he’s not breaking them. Ouch $$$$). And from the restricted Ontario pitchers list, Ben Blonde will be suiting up for the Rise. The last time I saw Ben pitch was with Norwich in Fargo. Gutsy lefty and he comes with good credentials. Ben will be with us for our last travel weekend July 14-16 in Lyons, PA. We look forward to what he brings to the circle.

As far as our team taking a flop at the ToC, you know nothing about us. OK, we didn’t hit last year and had a sub-par showing; check out previous ToC’s and post that. We don’t rest on our laurels and have made additions when needed, and our team measures up nicely to any of this years’ participants. We ‘Americans’ don’t make excuses; we come to play and in the end, win or lose you’ll know that we were in your face.

So, keep posting your predictions, berating the American teams, and general gibberish that we find so amusing. Maybe you can buy me a beer and we’ll talk about what a great game it is that we play. Won’t be hard to find me; I don’t hide behind a keyboard.

Yakima, Washington – Pitcher Dave Drotzmann made a rare trip from his Hermiston, Oregon home up to Yakima to pitch for His JRW & Associates team in the local Major League Thursday night. Dr. Drotzmann (Eye Specialist) takes every other Friday off, not for golf but for fastpitch softball.

Dr Dave fanned 13, walked one and did not allow an earned run in a 4-3 victory over Pistoristi’s Trucking, First half champions of the local league. Drotzmann also tripled in a run in the first inning. His catcher, Troy Grow, was 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Troy’s son Jason (SS) was also 2-3 while LF Don Cawthron was 2-4 with an RBI.
