The webcast can be found on www.kfvs12.com by clicking on to sports and then webcast. The entire game will be shown and then archived.

Kudos to Rick Heuring and the folks hooked in with the Klassic for convincing KFVS to offer this webcast. This is a potentially great thing for the tournament and fastpitch in general. The station, depending on how things go this time around, is considering web casting even more games in 2008. Obviously a lot of hits on the site- and a good crowd- will do nothing but help. Fastpitch promotion is the responsibility of all who love the game. Now is a great chance to step forward and help the cause !!

KFVS12 WebCast To Present Kelso Klassic Softball

Kelso Fastpitch vs. Southern Illinois Pirates

(Cape Girardeau) The KFVS12.com WebCast is scheduled to present the opening game in the 24th annual Kelso Klassic fast pitch softball tournament this Friday night. The game features the host team Kelso Fastpitch against the Southern Illinois Pirates from Royalton, Illinois. Coverage will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. from the Kelso, Missouri softball fields.

The multi-camera WebCast will be presented live at KFVS12.com, and then archived on the web site for users to watch at their convenience. Both the live presentation and the archived version will be available free of charge.

Randy Ray, former long time Sports Director for KFVS12 will do play by play for the WebCast.

“We know the Kelso Klassic has become one of the most respected and anticipated tournaments throughout the Midwest,” said Paul Keener, Director of Marketing for KFVS12. “When they approached us about WebCasting some of the action we jumped at the chance. We’re thrilled that we were able to work it out.”

According to Keener, WebCasting the opening tournament game will “test the waters” for possibly featuring more of the action next year.

“We hope the WebCast will focus attention on the entire tournament and the sport in general. We intend to use our WebCast on Friday night to promote the rest of the games throughout the weekend,” continued Keener.

The exclusive sponsor of this WebCast is Kluesner Concreters from Kelso. Internet service is provided by Charter Communications.

Since the KFVS12.com WebCast premiered last Fall, the on-line video presentation has featured more than 50 regional events including many local high school football and basketball games.

In an exclusive agreement between Turner Sports and Raycom Media, Inc., parent company of KFVS12, the station will stream full coverage, multi-camera events live at www.kfvs12.com. The content will also be archived for on-demand viewing following the end of event coverage. All WebCast content will be available free of charge.

The Kelso Klassic was founded in 1985 as an invitational tournament. Over the years, the tournament has drawn teams from all over the Midwest including Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and a touring New Zealand National team. This year the tournament was approached by the International Softball Congress to make it an official qualifying event for the Men’s World Tournament, the most prestigious event in men’s fast pitch softball.

Keener says that, while the production won’t be as fancy as network on-air quality, the KFVS12.com WebCast will be clean and basic, and available free to the entire world.

“This is a great opportunity for out of town friends, family, and fans to see events that they never would before,” continued Keener. “And we think the players, coaches, and family members will enjoy watching on-demand when it’s convenient for them.

Lumberkings split with Snappers & GHFL in Melissa fundraiser

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I’m on the road today meeting with the ISC II host committee in Appleton, Wisconsin and will be touring Memorial Park, site of the 2008 ISC II Tournament of Champions tomorrow morning.

Dan Bernard, who did so much to make this event the absolute success that it was, has provided a terrific synopsis of the night below.

I can add the following:
Game 1
Niagara Snappers 3 California Lumberkings 0
WP: Jamie Simpson 3 IP, Tom Berube 2IP, Byron Demoe 1IP, Mike Bateman 1IP
LP: Dave Drotzmann 5IP, Jeff Kawaguchi 1IP
Kevin Newhouse had a single and double and was the Game MVP.

Game 2

GHFL RBIs to Scott Wagar and Rob Greatrix.

Thanks to Dan Bernard, Jay Paylove, Dave Weldin, Brian Teeters, Will Lake, Herb Beckman, Kyle Smith, Jim Flanagan, Storm’s Deli, the Niagara Falls umpires, and the Snappers, Lumberkings and GHFL players who made the night so successful. (And thanks to everyone who tuned in on Ballpark Radio and sent us emails.)

We raised a significant amount of money for Melissa and Tommy to continue her treatments in Venezuela and put on two highly entertaining fastball games for about 300 people.

Watch for photos to appear on www.ghfl.ca and www.niagarasnappers.com in the near future.

Cheers,

Blair

A quick recap of the Melissa Brideau Fastball Fundraiser at Lancaster park last night in St. Catharines. With over 300 people on hand, the Niagara Snappers beat the California Lumberkings 3-0 in game #1 with the Lumberkings storming back to take game #2 against the GHFL All Stars 4-2.

MVP for game #1 was Kevin Newhouse of the Niagara Snappers, with Gerry Kennedy of the California Lumberkings taking MVP of game #2.

What a great night of ball, the rains held off, a huge crowd on hand to watch, Storm’s Deli was serving up some great food, a lot of money raised for a great cause and we managed to get both games on Ball Park Radio with Kyle Smith coming down to lend a hand.

A really special thanks to the California Lumberkings who went above and beyond what was expected of them. To say this team is a class act is an understatement. Very, very solid individuals that really made a difference last night.

#34 Springfield Brandt’s recap

Friday, June 6th, 2008

via Al’s Fastball

After taking Memorial Day weekend off, Brandt’s (Springfield, IL) was back in action on May 31-June 1 in the Springfield Franny’s Invitational, which also
doubles as the NAFA Southern Illinois State Tournament. As the defending champions of the event, they were looking to continue their hot start and get
more players on the field. With heavy rain and storms on Friday night, all of
the Saturday games were pushed back and the format was changed to 3 pools of 3 which would seed into a single elimination tournament beginning on Saturday night. The pools were only relevant for seeding on Sunday.

After their two pool games on Saturday, Brandt’s entered into a single elimination tournament on Saturday night against the host team Springfield
Franny’s, who featured Brandt’s ISC II pitcher Mike Reis. Brandt’s was able to get the win 7-3 and advance to Sunday for the final four of the event. Brandt’s
hurler Brad Sturdy chucked all 21 innings on Saturday, but would get some help on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, the semifinal matchups were set, as Pete’s Blues would take on Cerro Gordo and Brandt’s would take on the Belleville Stallions. The Stallions have had a strong year so far, already winning the Teutopolis Memorial Day Tourney and beating some of the top teams in Illinois. Mark Brayfield would see his first action of the year for Brandt’s, throwing 4
1/3 solid innings before yielding to Sturdy. Brandt’s would hold on for the 7-6 win and advance to the championship game. Brandt’s star hitter Tim Hopkins saw his first action of the season as well, and was a welcome addition to the lineup. Cerro Gordo would defeat Pete’s in the other semifinal game.
In the title game, Cerro Gordo pitcher Brent Stevenson and Sturdy would hook up in a classic pitcher’s duel. Brandt’s led 2-0 before the Broncos tied it with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, and it would remain tied until the bottom of the 11th inning, when things got strange. Brandt’s lost two players prior to the championship game due to travel concerns, and had used their bench up during the game. After losing a player in the last inning they would be down to 8 and had to forfeit the title game to Cerro Gordo in the 11th inning.
Stevenson won 4 games in the tournament and earned the Most Valuable Pitcher Award, while Larry Moffett won the Most Valuable Player Award for Cerro Gordo, who finished the tournament 5-0 to take the title.
