Certified Bat List for ISC & ISC II Play

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Because of the number of International teams competing in the ISC World Tournament the ISC will continue to use the certified bat list provided by the International Softball Federation (ISF). This list can be viewed on the ISF web site, http://www.internationalsoftball.com/. Click on Rules and Standards and then on certified bats.

The ISF have determined and published notice that August 31, 2008 will mark the end of the period during which bats that complied with the previous ISF Bat Performance Factor (BPF 1.20) shall be permitted to be used in ISF play and the new BBS (Batted Ball Speed) will be the only standard that is official. This test is similar to the test being used by the ASA. The one difference is in the speed of the ball. There is also a difference between the ISF and ASA in how bats get on their respective lists. The ASA does the testing of bats for their list. (http://www.asasoftball.com/about/certified_equipment.asp)

The ISF requires manufacturers who wish to have their bat listed to supply test result that show that their bats meet the standards set.

The ASA has a banned bat list. The ISF has a certified bat list.

We mention this now so anyone considering a new bat purchase for the 2008 season may want to check their choice with the ASA and the ISF lists first to eliminate the possibility of a bat purchased for 2008 may be non-approved for 2009. This includes all ISC and ISC II play.

Softball Canada uses the ASA banned bat list.

As a related reminder, by book rule, any player found to be using an altered bat will be ejected from the game and the balance of the tournament.

Kawaguchi to Pitch for LumberKings

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Bakersfield Ca:

The California LumberKings announced today that they have signed pitcher Jeff Kawaguchi for the upcoming season. Looking to replace injured pitcher Darren Strang, the LumberKings signed Kawaguchi who is from Vancouver, B.C.

Along with assuming the pitching duties vacated by Strang, Kawagucci will add a strong bat to an already deep lineup. In addition to pitching, he can also play in the field at 1st base and the outfield adding even more versatility to the Kings roster.

Jeff has been one of the top pitchers and hitters in the Premier league of Vancouver and is a former member of the Vancouver Grey Sox. With the addition of Kawagucci and the merge with Taylor Farms, the LumberKings are very optimistic about the upcoming season and are very excited to hit the field. They will open the season in early April in Taft, Ca. and continue their goal of improving on their second place finish at the 2007 ToC.

De Kalb Hogs Take Aim At The Deuce

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Via

De Kalb, Il.

The De Kalb Hustlehogs will attempt to qualify for the ISC II Tournament of Champions in Appleton, Wisconsin. The tournament takes place August 10-13.

Referred to by many as “The Deuce,” the Hogs will play in two ISC II qualifying events in May. The club will be hosting a qualifier the weekend of May 9-11 before playing in the Rockford Dick Tracy Tournament the following weekend of May 17-18.

The Hog organization’s mission is to introduce the game of fastpitch to new players. Every fall, the Hogs organize a Development League and receive a grant from the International Softball Congress to help with expenses.

“The ISC has been very supportive in our organization’s efforts to expose the game of fastball to men in the Northern Illinois area,” Hog General Manager Tom Crouch said, “The Hogs have never played in an ISC event and we feel it is time to give back to the fastball organization that has helped us so much with our efforts to improve the game. Therefore, we have decided to try and qualify for the ISC II. The players and coaches are very excited about the opportunity.” Crouch (Circle Tap) and Mike Drew (Aurora D&M) who play with the team in league games will not be able to participate in the ISC II as both players will be playing with their respective ISC teams in the World Tournament.

The Hogs will have to add a player or two to fill the void of Crouch and Drew and will release a roster in the next month.

Snappers take ISC II berth into 2008 ISC World Tournament

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Editor’s Note: There are two berths into the 2008 ISC World Tournament that were made available for ISC II teams. The Snappers, tied for 3rd in the 2007 ToC, have stepped up and taken advantage of one of those berths. On behalf of the ISC II program, we wish them the best of luck in WT and have no doubt they will prove to be a formidable opposition to whomever they play.

Niagara Snappers
Monday, December 3, 2007

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

Fastball Community,

It has been 27 years since a team from the Niagara region attended the prestigious ISC World Tournament. The 1981 Niagara Motors squad, playing out of St. Catharines, ON was the last team to attend the World Tournament, held that year in Saginaw, MI. In 2008 the region will once again be represented as the Niagara Snappers are honoured to announce that they have accepted an invitation to compete in the 2008 ISC World Tournament held in Kimberly, WI from Aug 10-18. When the Snappers take the field this upcoming May it will be the start of the teams 10th season and no better way to celebrate this milestone than a trip to the pinnacle event of fastball. While the roster is still undergoing a few tweaks it is already evident that this years version will have a solid core of veteran leadership possessing ISC level experience. We hope to announce our complete roster in the new year.

The first ever tournament the Snappers competed in was held in the beautiful City of Woodstock, ON. It was the May long weekend event and it is somewhat ironic that the team will be kicking off their 10th season back at the place known as the “Friendly City” and where the teams tournament experiences all began. Niagara is thrilled to announce that they have been accepted into the Woodstock Legends Tournament being held May 30-June 1. The Snappers feel privileged to be given the opportunity to compete at a world class event like Legends. We are still in the process of hammering out the remaining tournament and league schedules so check back to Al’s or visit the Snappers new look website for the latest news surrounding the team and the upcoming Snapper Shootout. Take care.
